Added Vintage samples, mpc2500 reports 'File not Found!!!'

I recently added the Vintage Beat Machines sample pack to my MPC2500. Unfortunately, when I try to load the programs the MPC reports a 'File not Found!!!' error. If I inspect the program (mode->program), the sample names display as "?Akai_XE8 Kick ~" for example. To me, it seems the the .pgm file is using a "shortnames" convention and cannot find the files.

Has anyone else bumped into this & found a solution besides rebuilding all the programs?

I've had this happen a couple of times when using some Dr Dre samples. I just thought the program had corrupted.
I know it may not be what you want to hear but rebuilding the program should fix it. Maybe try a pc based editor

Just an added FYI.

I downloaded and used BlueBox to edit one of the .pgm files in an attempt to fix the sample filenames. Sure enough, the .pgm works as expected and the samples are loaded into the pads.

I think I'll contact akai support and see if they have any easy answers.

Talked to support and they suggested an awkward work around which is:

"load the folder"

Meaning, don't go into the folder and load the .pgm. simply select the folder and hit 'DO IT'.
Sure enough, that works without errors ... BUT ... samples which have the 'shortname' in it (ie: filenames ending in '~') still don't load.

Loading the folder makes sense. That's what I've always done. When you load a folder you load it's entire contents.

Adjust the sample names to less than 16 characters. Spaces count. Also, verify sample rate and bit rate on all of them

So for clarity...

The sample pack is from Akai and is supposed to support all MPC models.

I'm pretty sure the problem is the long filenames being represented inside the .pgm by the microsoft FAT16/32 (?) shortname convention.

The WAVs are fine, only the .pgm is broken (or the firmware of the MPC2500 is broken & can't handle/convert shortnames). I would expect one of the two to get fixed.

It's in tech supports hands... I'll update when the solution is determined.
