2500 New CHECK it out!!!

hey peeps,
new to the mpc world what would u guys recommend i just got an mpc2500 with cd burner and cf card slot....just has the 16mb installed what do u guys recommend on ram whats the max u can go on the 2500???i see 250mb is that the biggest? and where? also how do you do a hd with it? ohh i also want to start sampling

ok for me the 2500 is a bomb.i put 128 mega and it really more confortable :you can resample your track for transfer to computer.you do a song then convert in one sequence and resample the master output and you got a sample of all your song for that ya need the 128 mega.if you want to work with a lot of programs its cool too in all my beats i got one prog for hats one for kicks etc...really nice with that..but the akai os is a big bullshhtt i had the free jjos i dont like the screens of the jjxlos and i dont care about his new function but you can test it like i do..the free jjos is really nice compare to akai if you do a chop shop in akais it will take like 60 seconds and the jj chops immediatly and you got the global program edit where you can change all the parameters of the samples on one program like if you want to filter your chop you do it for all samples in one time!!it save a lot of time..for me the free jjos is really a must have its like to have a new machine no doubt!!!peace dont know for the 256 mega ..... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =474705935

after banging my head against a wall with Ableton and Reason I've tried to stay away from using computers when making music with my mpc. I use it for transferring samples and thats it.

So I'd say that a hard drive is easily the most important thing to install in your mpc 2500. Im not a technical person -but its quite easy to do - even when stoned...

Not sure where you got 250mb from - I have 128 and thats more than enough for what I do. If you can get 250mb then by all means do it - but I honestly would say money spent on a hard drive would be better spent. I'd say go with the 128mb and a hard drive.

If you want to start sampling mate - its easy - you think about sampling...then you start doing it - give it your best shot and get into the habit of what works for you. Its all practice - so you can only get better.

Thanks for all the info couple more questions....will any hard drive do or can it be an external like a western digital? Also how good is that jjos OS....is it better trying to sample...opinons please....

I just got the JJOS today so wouldn't be able to give you an 'expert' answer. What I will say is that JJOS is a LOT more 'intuitive' - in terms of changing parameters etc.

Don't think sampling is any easier/harder - but I've learned that the 'chop shop' function (i.e. how you break up and modify your sample pieces is a lot better in JJOS.

Installed a hard drive earlier on this week - basically you take a standard laptop hard drive and install it via a connector thats built into the AKAI. Not sure if you'd be able to get an external one to work, and Im pretty sure the USB connection is slave only - so you can't connect a USB drive to the AKAI 2500 and have it load samples off the drive (not sure if this is technically possible - but maybe a future software upgrade could fix this).
