Making sure MPC 2500 works properly?

I'm about to buy a used 2500 tomorrow and wanted to know if there were things I definitely need to check to make sure its working properly.

Obviously I will power it up and make sure the screen looks legit for one.

A friend of mine told me to press play record on a sequence and make sure I hear the metronome thru the headphones.

The physical appearance will be looked at for wear and tear, but is there anything else you guys/gals would suggest?

Ask the guy to load in a few sounds, lay it down in the sequencer and save it. turn it off, swithc it on again and load in the sequence u made.
Also try to sample something with it. Check the outs and the cardreader, knobs buttons pads and the data wheel.

I'd press each pad and make sure it responds. A minor point - but may save you some time and trouble later on...

ide check each output on the back, bring a headphone & adapter to test em out.
