I tried to copy an 8-bar sequence, one of which I have 30 others about the same length, and I received an "Insufficient Memory" error. I know the 2000XL had limitations on Seq file size, at about 2MB, but the one I'm working with is at 1.6MB, so even if that requirement was still in place, I'd be under it.

I am using v 1.23

It's not clear to me what the storage availability is for sequences-- what is the size, and are the sequences larger than the 2000XL?

Lower right corner in Load screen show Sequence free memory.

But I can hardly believe you have a 1.6 MB sequence file there, I don't even think the sequence memory on the 2500 is that big at all.

Yeah, I can see the amount free, it's non-existent. My point is, I thought there would be more memory available for sequences. There is more available for the 2000XL, which is very strange.

I have about 25 8-bar sequences and 5 16-bar sequences loaded up for this project. I like working in a modular fashion in which i can move around these sequences in the song window at will, and if I have to consolidate sequences in an attempt to free up memory, it will be extremely shitty!

Now that I've had a chance to trim unused tracks from sequences, at least the memory frees up while you're doing it--the 2000XL didn't do that.

Still, 1.6 MB for total sequence/song memory? That's not enough when you do synth sequencing

I never solved this problem. The 2500 seq & memory storage is limited, not affected by RAM, so likely stored internally, or an OS limitation.

so ur not maxing out ram ? have you tried running JJOS instead to see if it behaves the same ?

here's some specs you could be going against

Sampler Recording Time:
136sec [16MB/MONO]
24min 28sec [128MB/MONO]
Sequencer Details: 100,000 notes resolving at 96ppq
99 Sequences with total 64 tracks per seq
20 Songs with total 250 steps per song

It's not related to RAM. This could happen with no samples loaded (and when I have samples loaded it does not change). 128 MB.

Here might explain the difference why it can't record as much:

MPC2500:
Sequencer Details: 100,000 notes resolving at 96ppq
99 Sequences with total 64 tracks per seq
20 Songs with total 250 steps per song

MPC2000XL:
Capacity: 300,000 notes
Resolution: 996pq
99 Sequences

(though I think Akai quotes the resolution incorrectly for the Capacity)

That's a 200,000 note difference, so I guess they figure the memory dedicated to the sequencer/songs (not samples) does not need to be as high.

Sample storage and RAM do not affect the sequencer storage on the 2500XL either.

Haven't really tried JJOS, honestly haven't felt the need. It may have a way around it, and maybe do use the sample RAM to store sequencer info?
