Because pad 8-16 don't respond as good anymore. I opened the casing and tried to look what the problem was. They feel the've died on me. So first i'd like to clean the pads and if that does not work i'll replace em.

If it's the new model design like in the 500, the sensors are sealed under thick clear plastic, there's nothing to clean. You can wipe it with a damp cloth if you want, but it won't make any difference. I don't even have pads, so mine are exposed to dust/dirt/oils and they all still work.
You can try reseating the cable, making sure there's good contact. But that's probably fine too if it works at all.
The sensors are supposed to have a 1,000,000+ hit lifetime. They have 2 layers, one is ink that's printed on the film, then they're sandwiched together. When you apply pressure, it changes electrical properties that can be read by the software and interpreted into MIDI velocities.
If you're still getting some output, something probably went wrong with those layers. Since they're all connected together, you have to replace the entire unit. Since you'll recycle those anyways, you might as well tear it apart and see if you can fix anything, or at least learn something.
This hasn't happened to me so I don't know, I'm just basing this off what I saw in mine, and what I read on the Sensitronics website.

Hi thanks for the info. I assume that the cable is fine indeed. But what i do notice is that they do respond to pressure but not to velocity. When i open the *other* screen and set up the pads i see the pressure indicator raising but the velocity meter stays down. What does this indicate?
It seems that you know your stuff so based on what I tell you it would probably be best to replace them all together?

Set all the pads to the most sensitive setting, which in JJ OS is 1 for "Pad On Level"? Which pads show something different going on in the pressure/velocity indicators?

Ok I have to try the one cus normally it is on 20 right? I did notice that when i put it on that i see the pads going all over the place. More than one pad gets triggered when i tap it.
