chop shop

jo! just got my new mpc yesterday.... and i saw that feature chop shop.... is this a function for some lazy retarded people??? so, i am coming from the mpc 2000xl... and to me this feature seems a bit useless...OR am i wrong?

you may be right with your opinion on the chopshop feature. this is an easy way to chop fast. you may not need this because you learned to chop on a 2000 and go mostly by ear i think. just take it as a feature you won´t use, because you don´t need that aid.
but if you look deeper into chopshop you´ll see that there are functions that can be very useful. the chopshop can chop stereo samples and keep them in stereo (akai os 1.24), that is why the autochop sometimes takes very long. if you export the slices as a patched phrase instead of sliced sample then you can change the tempo and the samples will stay in tune (somekind of autotimestretch). just play around a little...

They will actually be very accurate.
Zoom in very closely when making your final chops to get them perfect.
Unless the Akai OS doesnt have that?

Some will be accurate. Really depends on the sample. Especially live music with inconsistent tempos. Even when creating a perfect loop before auto chopping, some samples are still pretty far off in my experience. But if you're chopping up drum breaks and shit, it will be really accurate most times.

Thats very true. Forget about that situation...
I hate running into dope samples with inconsistent tempos just bouncing all over. Can be very frustrating but once you get the chops down its game time.

The trick is to chop small and time stretch the ones that go out of the tempo you want!

chopping with the 2500 is SOOOOOOOOOO much different than on the mpc 2000xl, cannot belive that... and the JOG WHEEL is killing me..... this is so slow.... damn!! i am not shure if iam becoming a fan of that mpc

You win some you lose some...

Chopping on the 2500 is superb compared to the XL, but yeah, the jog wheel is a huge let down. Function over form in this case.

If you're on Akai OS, press shift and the + to increase the jog wheel movement. On JJOS, just hold shift and turn the jogwheel!. It's not really that much different when you learn how to use it properly!

yeah chopping long samples really sucks on the akai. you should get the jjos

No it doesn't. There are several different ways to increase the scroll amount. For one, the tip I mentioned a couple posts up. Two, you can also turn on the "after" buttons and use the sliders to trim. Can't get any faster than that. Dudes just need to sit down for a few hours and RTFM and learn the equipment before saying it sucks. Yes, the jog wheel is loud as ****, but that is the only fault the 2500 has as far as the jog wheel is concerned.

naw dude, ur wrong, i was on the akai for much, much longer than a few hours and i know all of the tricks youre talking about. its just much more cumbersome... Wouldn't it be better to just hold shift and it scrolls faster?? even the way the qlinks work with trim is better in jj.

just sayin, i chop 100% faster with the jjos and that has nothing to do with RTFM

you're also wrong about the jog wheel. It's loudness is definitelty not the only fault
