Which MPC 2500 do you prefer?

hello,

I am new in this forum. I am michael from germany and I want to bye me an mpc. we have a music studio with full of equipment but I wantes something for myself where I can make something music by myself when I am alone at home.

I have not that many experience when it comes to a mpc. we have a akai mpd 32 in our studio for example but not a mpc.

only thing I now is that I want to bye me a mpc 2500 because of the cost/performance ratio

would you pfrefer me the normal 2500 or the new special edition mpc 2500?

Go with that LE...youll be happy you did...maxed out everything...if you buy a regular MPC you have to upgrade it and youll be cheesing until you do

Dont sweat too much to get an MPC 2500 SE. The best upgrade you can ever perform on a 2500 is to install JJOS on it. I'd truly suggest you make this the priority.

it means you can do things faster, and better. do you like to perform faster and better? perhaps even harder, depending on how fast and well you are performing, but don't overstrain too much; just get the standard mpc 2500 and upgrade the RAM, after that you should be well on the way to the climax of your mystical mpc 2500 journey...

essentially the special edition LOOKS nicer, other than the RAM this is the only thing that should matter that is different. do looks help you to perform better?

ps. RAM is very cheap. i paid £10. my friend paid £5. go get 'em mickey!

If you get the LE, there is nothing more you will have to do as far as physical upgrades go. The assertion that it just looks better.. is kind of well.. read the specs. You get ram, the dvd burner and a hard drive.

If you like hunting for deals on ebay and installing things yourself, get the regular one though.

Either way.. get the JJOS

I feel like the hard drive and the DVD burner in the SE are overkill. I'd get a 2500 stock, max out the RAM, get a good cf card and invest in the JJOS.

JJOS features in short: stability, DEEP grid edit, overall workflow is much slicker.

Also I guess I'm alone in thinking that the white SE case looks like ass? I got the LE a while back and faux carbon fiber sides are about the cheesiest thing I've ever seen on a musical instrument. It's like flames and skulls on your dad's fender, HOKEY.

HDD?? DVD burner?! not necessary at all, bro. buy a £10 RAM and your good to go. grimly doesn't even think SE looks good, so that's another reason not to get the special edition! DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR MONEYS PEOPLE!

The HDD can come in handy but I mostly use it for archiving my sounds, and keep all my frequently-used projects on my CF card. I've never used the dvd drive in my 2500LE.

Akai's business these days is add-ons and unnecessary features. Keep it simple and it'll not only be cheaper but more manageable.

I use both DVD and HD.. and why would I care what grimly thinks of the LE color? Your post makes no sense. I havent bought a CF card yet. Not sure I ever will. If you consider the price of CF cards back when these things first dropped, I have saved a ton of cash in comparison to some. (perhaps not all) I considered the stock black version when I bought my MPC. I decided that I didnt want to open the case and perform installations. If you are not broke, and you want the LE additions, then buy it.

There are a lot of things I can do to save money.

1. Limit myself to 2mb ram.

2. Install a cheap ram chip that I bought off the net.
Dont wanna

3. Buy CF cards.
Dont wanna

4. Drag my 2 track to the computer or take a CF card out and insert it, then open a program that buns cd's when I need a cd.
Don't wanna

5. Install a cheap HD that I bought off the net.
Dont wanna

6. Install a cheap CD drive I bought off the net.
Dont wanna

7. Live without the DVD drive and HD.
Dont wanna.

Mind you... here is the type of person I am. I bought a control surface with motorized faders and vst/vsti control. Really I could use a mouse and save a nice lump of cash... but guess what.

What may be excess to you... could be exactly what another person wants/desires/needs for their desired workflow. I know a guy who opened his MPC case and the screwdriver slipped, so he scratched the case. I dont ever have to worry about that either. I also think the LE is easier to read from at night, with low light. Here is the thing lil dude, there were times within the first few months of purchase, that I wondered if I made the right choice due to the higher price... then I turned on my MPC, started hitting pads, and didnt care anymore. I haven't cared since. Kill the LE envy duke. They are both the same machine. The LE just has more capabilites than a stock 2500. My statement stands... if you dont want to fiddle around with buying parts off the net, and self install, then the LE is for you. If you are into that sort of thing, then the black version will probably be your choice.

I really didnt want to get into looks but... I was just told a few weeks ago that my LE looks better than the black one. That really has nothing to do with anything but... since you broguht it up, I have always heard this regarding the LE.

Its all subjective though... honestly. What you want/need can be far different from the next man. Im thinking of moving on to a 5000, but I guess thats overkill extreme. And don't forget the Motorola Droid I have been eyeing. I know that I can use two tin cans and string to communicate with another person, but... dont wanna.

WHY BUY THE MPC, WHEN YOU COULD JUST BEATBOX!!!!!!!

okay, now you've convinced me.

convinced me, of course, that you don't listen. anyone with a single brain cell: buy the normal mpc 2500, i have the cd/dvd and it's more worthless (takes longer) than just plain sampling off of my ps3/tv::::: for a lot more money. jrides (what he rides, you be the judge) doesn't want so save money, good cf cards are cheap and simple to use, plus you can stick them into any pc (even if you have to buy a CHEAP card device that allows your pc to read it) making backing up your music simple and fast. not to mention reliable. he'll argue you can do this with a hdd but again there are more advantages with cf cards and for a fraction of the price.

he may not wanna wanna do a lotta lotta stuff, but it takes no time at all and will save you a lot of valuable money. will this hinder your mpc and it's performance? NOPE. will it hinder YOUR performance? HELL NOPES. so take my advice. unless, of course, you like the look of the SE, and feel it's worth it on looks alone. that kind of mentality, however, gets you nowhere in life. even lambo's have to stop at red lights, y'heard?

Alright I can see some points worth highlighting here:
To each user their own. My personal opinion is that samplers (and music gear at large) is best when it's not expensive for the sake of being expensive (aka FLOSSY). To me the SE / LE are clearly Akai's attempt at cashing in on a market with too much money in their pockets. I bought my LE secondhand from some dude who clearly had no idea how to use it, but boy did it look nice to him. In fact it matched his car (pimped Scoobydoo, white w/carbon fiber hood). It's all glitz. I'm not denying the potential usefulness of the DVD drive or the HDD but I sure as hell don't use em.

As with any "WHICH IS BETTAR!?" conversation, it boils down to how you're going to use it. If you want to sample from digital sources and plan on having tons of large audio files to hold on to, then maybe the SE is for you. If you sample primarily from vinyl and don't use chop up more than 20 seconds of audio at a time, then the stock model is probably the best route. The 128 megs of RAM is hella nice either way, and I can highly recommend that as well as the JJOS to any 2500/1000 owner.
