Record in- RCA issues

I just bought a used 2500, everything appeared to be in great condition. However, I am trying to hook up my turntable to sample. The turntable has RCA outs (not a DJ quality table) and I am using adapters to plug into the 1/4" jacks.

Here's the issue- when I plug them in all the way (correctly), there is no signal being picked up by the MPC. However, when I plug them in halfway the sound is coming through loud and clear. Is there something I am missing here or could this be a problem with the unit?

what kinda turntable is it? you most likely need a phono preamp...

It's an Ion USB turntable, it's all I have.

And I do know that there is no preamp on the turntable. So this is the issue?

The mpc's inputs are line level. Turntable outputs are weaker than line level and require a turntable pre-amplifier before you go into the mpc.

So what's up with me being able to hear the turntable with the line plugged halfway in?

Maybe you're using a stereo jack connector which will only only present the turntable's output at the jack tip? or something like that.
Do you have the REC GAIN up full on the mpc in order to hear the turntable output with the jack only half inserted?

Either way.. it's a quick fix/fudge to getting audio from your turntable into the mpc. At a later date I recommend getting a phono preamp of some sort or a mixer with the phono preamp built in.

check the adapters you are using for the rca cables that go into the mpc.

Without a preamp, you'd typically need to hook up a turntable to a mixer. You could probably find (a no frills) one on eBay for a decent price.

he mentioned it was a USB turntable... and those USB turntables are usually built just like the portables [like the Numark PT01 or whatever] and they don't need preamps to my knowledge... it's possible some of them do, but i'm starting to believe it's that he's using stereo adapter for mono inputs and not a preamp issue...

Ahh, ok. Umm, are you using trs or ts? If I'm not mistaken you'll need the ts plugs; the one with only one line. These kind:
