Whats up everybody? I was wondering, how is the sound quality of these machines? I currently own a mpc 3000 and love the sound that it produces, but have been thinking about getting a 2500 because of it's more modern features. Also, how is the sound quality of the 2500 compared to the 3000? If anyone would be willing to help answer these questions it would be much appreciated-

The sound quality on the 3000 is way better then the 2500 but what I would do...buy the 2500 because you can upgrade the ram, CD drive, and hard drives and stay off the 3000...Ive been searching high and low for a 3000 and cant find them anywhere, maybe on Ebay but **** want a arm and a leg for one...but yeah the 2500 is cool but nowhere near a 3000 in sound quality....

Is the sample engine descent in the 2500? I'm afraid that the 2500 lacks in sound quality for some reason. I have this fear that the 2500 sounds weak or thin. I've owned both the 2000 and 2000xl and got rid of them because I didn't like the sound that they produced. I loved the features of them but couldn't justify keeping them for that reason alone. I know that alchemist is using a 2500, and to be honest, i really don't like the sound quality of the beats that he's producing with it. Don't get me wrong, the beats he's makin' are nice, but the overall sound quality of the beats just isn't there. I've also checked out some of the beats that supreme has produced with it and I really couldn't judge the sound quality all to well. So with that beeing said, is the 2500 very descent sounding??

Man, do not get pulled into this whole "love affair" with the 3000! They all have a unique sound to them. The 3000 has its own quirks and good points, just like the 2500 does. I have heard people making heat on 500's, 5000's, 3000's and every other sampler out there. I have used or owned ALL of the Akai's and Emu's (and Casio too). My mentor got the MPC 3000 as a gift from Russell Simmons (R.I.P. "EQ" - Masterwerks Recording Complex) and he swore by it (and the Sp12, 1200's) and hated the 2000XL when I purchased it. The 2500 that I have now does not sound "thin" to me - if you mean lacking in tone. This whole type of debate is on every forum on the net - microphones, preamps, compressors and every single piece of gear out there. Get yourself a 2500, use it creatively and diligently and make a judgment yourself as to how it sounds. I use the 2500 exclusively now and I am ok with the way it sounds. I learn new things about it everyday. I use a Tascam 2488 because it suits my songwriting needs right now. Does it sound like a U87, Avalon, Apogee, SSL, Protools chain? Of course not. But when I need a chain like that - I go and book hours at the places that own the SSL's, Focusrite and Avalon level gear. When I build my rooms, I will buy what my budget allows to get the best sound that I can. So for now, don't pressure yourself. Buy the **** 2500 or hook up with someone who has one and try it in a few different situations. Then do the same with the 3000. If you can't find anyone, then book a couple of hours of off-peak time at a studio that has them both and go use them. Then you won't have to ask such questions because your ears will be your judge. When you listen on Soundcloud, ect you don't know what other processing has been done to the tracks. Go and get your hands on these things in a creative setting - not Guitar Center where you have no creative freedom. And then post your findings here!

Just my advice!

yeah i gotta agree with Krush.. Especially about the fact that you have no idea what other processing has been done by the time your listening. Unless you have the same set of sounds in both machines side by side running thru the same mixer and monitors you'll never going to be able to get a real comparison.

We all know that the older mpc's sounded better.. or let me say. grittier. But thats cause they were 12bit. But in my opinion there are plenty of ways to achieve that sound these days, from expensive outboard gear to bootlegged vst's that mimic them well. Personally though.. having started on a mpc2000 classic(not a lousy xl) and having used the 2000xl, 3000, mpc60II, mpc5000 and mpc2500, and currently owning a 2500 and having a 60II in my possession, ALL i use is the 2500.

Maybe the 60II/3000 sounds better, maybe it doesn't. Even then "Better" is completely subjective just like all other gear as Krush mentioned as well.... HOWEVER.. and it's a BIG however.. What I can do with the 2500 versus a 60II or a 3000 is NO COMPARISON. lol. Especially when you consider JJOS. The increased workflow and ease of usage, along with menu's that make sense and features that I had always dreamed of having finally at my finger tips OUTSIDE of a pc, and in an MPC is FAR more important to me that the 2500 not sounding 12bit enough. God the thought alone of loading samples from a floppy disc is just so daunting now it'll gimme nightmares.

FWIW

I definitely agree with Krush. Some people are just so stuck on a particular machine that they simply don't want to believe nothing can be better. The 3000 does sound good, but the compressors/eq's on the 2500 makes your output sound customizable. Need the beat to knock more, turn the compressor on. Need more shine out your beat, dial in the eq.

If someone did refused to buy a beat because of a comment you made - then that wouldn't say much for their business sense. I would buy beats from Charles Manson if I could make some serious cheese using them!!!

The 2500 just sounds horrible. it is so weak compared to the 3000. I get sick just seeing the akai stuff nowadays. clearly not the company they used to be. the features on the 2500 are good, but for me, As of sound, The 3000 sounds a bit darker, that is because the converters arent that good versus the ones on the 2500. Love the sound though.

Horrible and weak are such subjective words! A darker sound because of inferior converters makes the 3000 sound better? When I want a "darker" or "grainy" sound, I can get it. They are all just tools. But a mechanic who only has a sledge hammer in his tool box will never be allowed to work on my cars!! And VHS tapes have a "darker" picture than BluRay Discs! But I am curious, alexrock23 - which MPC's do you or have you owned and for how long?

ANY piece of gear is only as dope as the creativity and work ethic of the person using it!! 3000's have a sound just like any other gear. My 2500 has a great sound and It suits my needs. But I would not trade it for a 3000. Now if I came a across a 3000 for a great price, I would think about it.
