pawn shop 2500

There is a used 2500 at a pawn shop near me and its been there for a while, and they are trying to get rid of it for 500, do you think its safe to buy a mpc from a pawn shop and what are the first thing i should test before buying it? thanks.

You wont have time to test much while its still in the pawnshop.

If dude says it works fine and it appears to be in good condition, buy it and get a RECEIPT.

Ask how long you have to identify defects and return the item if it is faulty.

Best way to check everything is to have an existing 2500 owner look over it and test a few things.

Buying used gear is always risky, but is it a risk that YOU are prepared to take??

i've bought an MPC before from a pawn shop that sells on eBay [without any guarantee of it working] and it arrived working fine. for $500 i'd definitely take the chance if it looks good cosmetically... and even if it needs a minor fix that would still be a nice deal.

At the very least make the dude power it up... maybe even take a cf card and earphones just to import a few sounds and check they play ok.

its gotta be able to turn on or otherwise they wouldnt even accept that hunk of junk..imo

yeah true, unless they broke it haha.

yeah maybe bring an ipod, set of headphones, and sample something quick and chop it to all the pads.

ive gotten rid of so much broken shit at pawn shops, but i never buy from there.. they dont check shit, at best they power it up.. especially complicated equipment like an mpc, no way they checked it when they bought it..

yeah i got my 1000 from pawnshop. Where I am, consumers have 3 month warrenty, but as stated by other posters, the RECEIPT is needed to return it if its broken. my came with box and plug, no manual and in perfect condition, all for the 3rd of retail price. It had Akai card as well but who ever bought and then pawned it sampled some 1.40sec song sample and a god awful distorted badly chopped noisey klanging sound. Needless to say its now upgraded and being put to better use.

i bought mine from a pawn shop. got a receipt like the dude said earlier in the thread, and it worked fine. paid £700 though so not as good a bargain, but then again, it works.

seems kinda risky i suppose but i will take an ipod with me and test it out as best as i can....THANKS EVERYONE!

make sure to test out inputs and outputs too, my last second hand 2500 of craigslist had blown left input
