Need some advice on MPC 2500. "waiting for MIDI play"

Hello everyone, i am a new user to the MPC world so far over a few hours i have learned how to chop samples and assign them to pads. However as stated in the manual, one is suppose to press REC and PLAY START together to begin the count down with the metronome. When i do this i message appears "waiting for MIDI play" i dont have a key board hooked up just the MPC2500 and my speakers. Some help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and I apologize in advance if there was a post already explaining this. I used the search feature to the best of my ability.

it`s midi enabled, slaving or master syncing to something. Turn it off by going into midi settings..

Thanks a lot bud. I messed around with the settings when i first got my mpc. Thanks again for the help and the swift response.
