16 Levels

the 16 levels on my mpc1000 isnt working that good anymore... I have to press hard on it for it to select it. does anybody know How I can fix this problem?

It seems that the switches underneath the buttons are very low quality, probably due to the downside of competitive tendering in manufacturing.

It seemed to me a daunting task to replace them, but I got to the point of pulling my hair out, drooling & rocking uncontrollably as a result of my MPC buttons to do anything about it. So many of mine had failed or were about to that I had to take my trusty soldering iron to them.

I've replaced most of them now with ALPS-SKHHAKA010 buttons 'which-are-only-18.3-pence-each-for-god-sake,-why-couldn't-they-have-used-them-in-the-first-place' sorry, and now my MPC 2500 feels silky smooth with a hint of spring freshness.

As you can tell, the old switches had made me quite insane.

It may be you can work around the problem for a bit, but if you come to the point of jibbering while riding on the bus, there is a way out to salvation.

It sounds like DeOxit is quite miraculous.

I've tried to see if I could get it in the UK & failed miserably
I've tried Servisol but I think its not quite the same.

How many months do you get between spraying or does it only need spraying once & thats it fixed.

Its only out of curiosity mind, as the ALPS tacts are built for 1 million presses. (not like the 10 or 20 of the NumarkAkaiPro ones.)

my buttons are failing... i think it's soldering time for me too. i'm not confident enough to perform the operation myself, is there somewhere i can go for 'lessons'?

Soldering is easy sauce once you get the basics down. get some PCB from radio shack and practice soldering and de-soldering resistors or capacitors, once you feel good move onto the MPC. I have been working with electronics for a while and modifying Playstations and X-box's etc.

Biggest thing is not to bridge any connections... could be fatal.


If after that you still don't feel good, buy the switches.. take your MPC to any electrical store and the guy will have a conversation with you looking you in the eyes while he installs the switches lol.
