getting songs from 2000 onto 2500...mine seems to be elimina

I have been perusing the forum again, trying to find the tidiest way to get songs from my 2000 onto my new to me 2500. I knew there would be some long hand in this transfer, but my trouble as of this moment is my sequences seem to be there, mostly, only all the tracks have shifted to one track earlier and the very first track of the seq's are missing.

here is what I have done so far:

saved all sounds as .wav
saved all programs as .pgm
saved all sequences individually as .mid

when I had trouble initially, I tried renaming all .pgm and .mid files to get to 8 characters or under. but that didn't solve my seq's being screwy.

Q: do I need to also have every .wav renamed to 8 characters or under? (want to avoid going through every single sound, adjusting parameters in the 2500, only to find I have to redo it all with renamed sound files)

Q2: Is it simply a matter of reformatting a zip disk in my PC via USB Zip, then resaving all files onto it in MPC2k, then dumping back on laptop and loading onto 2500? will my sequences then appear identical to the way they were?

thanks in advance. the search function is useful if you find exactly the info you need, but asking a Q is useful if you don't.

if anyone has a direct link to some knowledge that would help me out.

without time to run any more tests, I went to rehearsal last night to see how far along I was.

the good news is that all of my midi info is there and will play without me having to assign every track to the correct program as I will have to do with the sounds.

the bad news is that the missing track will still play in the mix even though I can't see it. I can't turn it off/or mix the tune this way obviously.

I hope to try the reformatting trick soon.

I have done a lot of searching and reading. Found this...and this is exactly my problem...

ok, ok, don't beat me. I didn't know that a mid.file has a 99 bars limit. I have a few of this sequences by using "convert song to squence".
Okay, I tooked a shorter one. The 2500 loads it, but Track 1 is missing, it starts with track 2. Any Idea for this too?

Yes.

From memory yes. However you are better saving as a "seq". MPC 16pad chromatic information is lost when saving as a mid.

thanks for the reply Sensei. I have limited time to work on this transfer so it is dragging on...

although I thought I tried to save it as a seq and couldn't? I have a 2k. I will look at it again in about 12 hrs.

in the window "save a sequence" on a 2k, it won't allow me to save in an extension other than .mid. It will only allow for it to be type 1 or 0.

My previous understanding was the '1' was choice to use, I will try 0 now just b/c I don't know what other tests I can run right now. I feel like I tried that before, but maybe I did but with an over the 8 character limit name?

ok I really could use some help, nothing is working. I just recorded in the studio and am anxious to have a cd release show, but I can't play until my gear transition is complete...

trying to save as midi file type "0" did not work as expected.

what do I need to do?

disappointed I couldn't get any help on this Forum. So, just in case someone else like me comes along let me offer MY solution to this problem:

since the first track is being cut off by the time it reaches the 2500, copy the first track of every sequence and move it higher up (anywhere you have room 2-64).

first time I tried this I turned track 1/pad 1 OFF and there is still a residual "ghost midi" track that plays the same riff but heavily staccato'd.

next time I try it (and I am expecting this to work so if I don't post again it did in fact work) I am going to go back in and also DELETE the original track 1/pad 1 riff. that should wipe out the ghost midi track.

ALSO, since the parameter screens are different, instead of going through sound by sound and learning how to exactly replicate attack and decay and such, I am simply going to send the sounds as is to the new machine and re-sample them.

Now, this is going to be easy for me b/c I don't have a huge library right now, obviously for those with thousands of sounds YMMV.
