I had JJ-OS 2.13 installed and everything was working fine. I upgraded to 2.18 and now the Main and Pad Bank A button do not work. I tried to go back to 2.13 and it still does not work. I had to erase and hit the the Akai website for the regular OS but still no go. HELP!!! Is there some secret mode that will let me check if all the buttons are working? A secret diagnostic mode?

Ha! that's good. I don't have hands

I guess I am trying to ask is if there is a secret diagnostic screen that can help. Similar to holding the erase button when booting up.
I can map the main & pad bank A button to midi and it works that way. I'm just trying to figure out if it is a tactile switch problem or an OS problem.

so I went ahead and ordered the tactile buttons from mouser.com (item # 688-SKHHAK). Bought a Solder Sucker, a soldering gun and a roll of 60/40 Rosin-Core Solder and took care of the problem. Works like a charm. The switches from mouser were identical. No cutting involved.

If you're are not going to replace them all at least make sure you identify which button needs replacing. Test them all before unscrewing your MPC. If you don't then you are going to take it apart, fix a switch and then later realize that another switch needs fixing.
Also if you never soldered before don't practice on your MPC first. Get an old radio or electronic device and practice on that before trying on your MPC.

While you're at it replace the pads or any other buttons you want to customize. Better to do it all at once because those MPC screws and ribbon cables are a pain in a$$
