I'm a long time Ableton Live user and also rockin an MPC 2500SE and MPC 60 MKI right now.
Ableton is a mad slept on program. I've been using it for years, making mostly grimey boom-bap hip-hop. I come from a hardware background, so with sampler and drum rack in Ableton, it's great! Ableton needs to step up their marketing especially with hip-hop producers. They're finally starting to see the light, with artists like Ski Beatz, Jazzy Jeff, EL-P & Diplo promoting their product. They need some heads like you, Buda, me and some other hip-hop producers, showing how effective and powerful it can be in hip-hop production. I sold music gear years ago and came across Ableton when it was only on version 3. It's come a long way since then. I was even trying to get a sales job with them a few years back, telling them they are missing a whole market of producers who would love the program, if they knew how to use it and how powerful it really is.
Right now Logic, Reason, Native Instruments and FL Studio are killing them with their promotions and artists endorsements.
I heard the "Shootouts" beat and loved it. That's what made me look up who produced it and found out about you and Buda.
Over the years I've had an MPC 60 MKI, MPC 3000, MPC 2000XL, MPC 2500SE, EPS, EPS 16+, ASR-10, SP 1200 and a Roland TR-909. Plus i've been using Ableton Live & Pro Tools for years.
Most times when i hear a beat, i can usually tell what gear it was made on. The "Shootouts" beat threw me off.
I would have guesses it was done on an MPC 2000XL & synths. That's the great thing about Ableton, it does throw people off. I don't know how you guys mix, but even beats i make in Ableton, i stem out to Pro Tools to mix. It makes everything sound warmer, fuller and wider. I've done some beats in Ableton that even my production partners thought i did on the 2000XL or my 60.
I'll def be keepin an ear out for new production from the both of you.
