New MPC...can't use it just yet?

Hey guys, this is my first post, coming from the boss sp series, I just got an MPC 2500 tonight. purchased it used in good condition, except that when i got home and put in my cf card (he didn't have one to test it) I had this "wrong card!!!" message over and over no matter what i did, I soon realized after putting a flashlight in there, that in my memory card slot the very last top pin is bent completely upwards. I was pretty bummed when I realized this, but I got the 2500 at a reasonable price. is there any work around to getting started up, like loading jjos from a cd, or through usb (although i couldnt get that to work), or do i pretty much just have to buy a new memory card slot?

I would open it up.. and see how well in there you can get.. you know, maybe without the casing etc it will give you easier access.

then with a small flat head screw driver (one of those super thin ones) you could try and bend it back in place.

this is a problem with CF cards.. you must be EXTRA careful, in fact you are lucky it bent up and not touching another pin or it may not even boot until you fix it.

I've been thinking about doing this, but read a post about a problem similar to mine and the person tried that and reported they couldn't fix it at all, but considering my only other option is to just buy a whole new memory card slot component i'm going to go ahead and try to open it up, its worth a shot. thanks again!

you could as well install a hard disk and save/load from/to it instead of the cf card.

Unfortunately you will need a CF to update/change your OS... but as far as working with the MPC, an HDD will be fine and hassle-free to install on the 2500.

now you know why he didnt have a cf card with him, I on the other hand managed to score mpc 1000 for $100 cuz of this problem but the seller didnt know pin was bent...


what I did is took the thing apart so I got as much access to the pins as I can...gently straighten out the pin to where I could insert the cf card without hassle...the pin itself was pretty twisted but it was straight enough/aligned with cf card hole for it to work...try to do it with first attempt cuz once you start moving the pin back and forth gurantee it will break off

this is why CF cards as a whole are a poorly designed medium unless they are being used as solid state hard drives (ie not being removed). pin-type connectors with such fragile pins are so lame...unlike VGA style pins, which are pretty robust (but not invincible). any time engineers are dealing with something that small they should be using pinch-style contact terminals instead of pins. for real. sometimes people's design choices baffle the hell out of me.

i used to get baffled by shit like that until I figured out they do this purposely to make money of parts

I took it apart last night but once i got past taking off the back plate and saw all the guts i decided i'd rather just buy a whole new memory card slot. however the mpc has rendered me god damn broke. so whats up with installing a hard disk etc? is there a possible work around for the time being? because i'm starving to start hittin these pads. thanks again guys, peace

fixing the pin wouldnt have been any harder/easier than installing the entire board itself...all you had to do is pop off the top of memory card slot

as far as installing hard disk you can get away on a cf card and back it up to your comptuer if you start running outta room...when you get around installing hard disk you can transfer those over....3rd party ram is about $10-15


what you gonna do with the old Front Memory Card and Head Phone PCB ? maybe you can ship it to me if you gonna toss it
