Direct recording vocals into the mpc, without a daw?

I'm looking for the cheapest way to direct record vocals. I'm broke, and hoping to avoid software. I was thinking of just using a preamp, based off of some of the advice I've gotten off this forum. Would this one work/sound half-way decent?

While your choice may be a very good piece of gear, it's not the cheapest and if your broke why suggest that to yourself

Wow, thanks for those recommendations. I really appreciate it, bro. I'm seriously considering getting that first one. Do you think it would work well with a BETA-87A phantom-powered mic?
