Anyone have OS 1.23?

As you all know, 1.24 is kind of a pain in the ass because of the stereo chopping issue. Can anyone post up an OS version that came out before this latest one? Even if it's not 1.23.

I'd be fine with OS 1.21 (the only other one I could find), but when I try to save a project to hard disk it freezes half the time. I've lost a lot of cool shit because of this bug.

this is why most everyone uses JJOS. you should try out the free version instead of the AKAI OS.

I recently just got my MPC...I had to keep it in the box for the most part though since I would never finish my work this week if I took it out right away .

Just from what people are saying here I didn't even bother with the stock os AT ALL. As soon as I got my new MPC, I turned it on and tried a number of functions just to make sure everything was working properly. I installed the cd/dvd drive immediately, upgraded my ram, and installed JJOS-XL. An hour later I got my code for the software.

Look at the feature comparison chart for JJOS-XL. There's simply no reason not to have it if you have the money. Even 10 years from now if it's still for sale it will never lose its value. Even if you plan on buying it 'later' just buy it now. You don't want to get too used to the stock OS and flip over JJOS and hit yourself for not having it sooner.

Like you, kardus... I started out using JJOS and didn't bother with the original Akai one at all because of the reviews. I had the 1000 at the time. And yeah, JJ made some great changes like global program edit etc. It's definitely better for general sampling.

But if you look at the top of that feature comparison, you'll see a blank box next to the most important feature IMO - direct record. In JJOS, you use audio tracks which is actually different than the original way of recording. Because I use a lot of synths/external keyboards, it's kinda a deal breaker. Yeah, I can still use midi... but I also need my mpc to do the most basic thing - record audio while the beat is still playing. That's just what fits my workflow.

with JJOS you can record from the inputs while the beat is playing in both audio tracks and/or regular record mode... that's how i've been recording my scratches on top of beats lately.

Ok you can record, but is it not true that you have to go find it later and line it up? It's been a while, but I just remember it being more of an inconvenience to record stuff.

What I mean by direct record is this. When enabled, you hit rec + play and after the 4 ticks you automatically start recording exactly on the 1 beat. The sample goes as long as you want and doesn't stop at the end of the sequence... so you don't lose the reverb tails and that kinda stuff as I think you might in audio track. Then, when you hit stop, a menu pops up asking if you want to keep and record to a pad. This process lets you record takes and sequence them really fast... and I didn't think JJOS let you do this.

If I'm wrong, what am I missing about the JJ recording process?

well, in JJ you can do exactly that when recording in audio tracks... it will count you in before recording, but it will start at the beginning of the sequence and stop right at the end of the sequence... a simple workaround would be to duplicate your sequence as many times as necessary in SONG mode and then save that to a new sequence for you to record your audio track on top of... and then adjust accordingly by shortening that sequence to the amount of bars you wish to keep it at... i suppose there's always a workaround.

No need to even copy or such... turn LOOP OFF, create AUDIO track, hit [REC]+[PLAY] and it'll record as long as you need (creating new bars on the way).

I might try the demo that I have lying around to compare it and see if it's actually worth converting to. Admittedly, I was an amateur when I first got the 1000. So if there were workarounds then I wasn't gonna figure em out right away. Been doing just fine with the original OS, but everything just takes a little bit longer.

*And as for the original topic... I'm starting to think its not an OS issue. I found 1.22 and have the same saving problem. Something must be jacked up with my mpc because it didn't used to do this. About 1/3d of the time saving to hard disk it'll freeze. Usually it's when creating a new folder... which I'll never do anymore. And when saving to flash card, it freezes 1/5 times. Not sure what to do about it... I have to track everything out now just outa fear that the bug will pop up. It's like playing russian roulette with my mp.

You need to format you hard disc and flash card every time you up date your OS.Plus never rename any folders or files cause it will cause a bug next time you save anything.This works for me on 1.23.Can't find that os but will post it when I do.
