Problem with almost no volume with 2500

I have just purchased a 2500 second hand, and I was very happy to turn it on and hear/see that there was a hard drive installed, and JJOS 3.09 as well!

Now I have been hesitant buying used gear from pawn/craigslist, and I have been burned a few times. So, I always test pads, sliders etc. I did not have a 1/8 adapter, but everything loaded and seemed fine.

I got home and plugged my little headphone adapter in and nothing. I played around and figured out there was indeed a signal, but it was very very weak. I plugged the 2500 into my computer's soundcard and same thing. I tested the headphone out, the mix outs (can't figure them out now), and the stereo outs. All the same.

The volume knob, does not do anything. It does not make any difference in the level of sound on headphones or stereo outs. I have tried multiple headphones. It makes sense if the volume pot is bad maybe.... I thought it may be a fuse of some kind, but I doubt it.

My friend said he had a somewhat similar problem like that and he replaced the pot for the knob and everything was all good. I called VST and asked them what they thought and they were not sure.

I am wondering if anyone has a similar problem that they got rid of?! I can definitely order a new part and hopefully not ruin everything by soldering it back in...

I am going to open her up and look around and see if anything looks out of place...

try this and see if it helps.... you may have the MPC's internal volume set too low...

press MODE + PAD 10

change the MASTER LEVEL to -6dB

That was the first thing I did.. I took the level to 0 db actually. It is so freaking quite, and the volume knob does absolutely nothing. I opened her up to give her a cleaning (so freaking dirty, shame on the last guy who owned her for getting that much garbage in it, and never cleaning it)

Pots seem fine, but no changes from high to low. My friend says it is certainly the pot, being bad, and to just buy a new one, he basically guaranteed it. So, I am going to get one and try to replace it. He had the same thing on a 2500 LE.

I wish there was a function to check volume level, electronically, maybe I can do a continuity test?

sounds like a bad pot to me too.

looks like you're cool with fiddling about with the insides of machines, you could just hook up the points up before desoldering to check that it is indeed a bad pot.
