Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Hey guys,

I just got a beautiful 2500 off ebay for $300. It is perfect condition minus the fact that it is not working. First off, no sound is coming out, from both the 1/4 inch outputs and headphone. Secondly, the pads do not seem to be responding. Thirdly the CF ejecting button is busted as all hell. Because the MPC is in such pristine condition, I think the first three problems are not a hardware issue. I peaked inside and everything seemed to be in good working order. If someone could help me out here I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,
KR

I'd say that's on the cheap side for a 2500 in perfect condition on eBay. Nothing impossible - but cheap enough to raise some suspicion.

Did you Bid or Buy It Now?

Did you order from an eBay merchant with a high feedback score?

Did the seller admit anything wrong with the unit - what was the condition?
(The listings are supposed to be truthful)

Did the seller choose to allow Returns/Exchanges on this order?
(You're probably covered by eBay Buyer Protection)

Have you tried e-mailing the merchant with whom this transaction took place - just to see what's up?

Definitely play around with your new MPC - try to get it running properly.
Make sure that you don't do anything that could possibly hinder your chances of returning it later - just in case you were sold a beat unit.

If you are stuck with the thing - at least you're only out $300. It could be much worse when dealing with used gear.

Yeah I bought it BIN for that much. I have fixed up 1000's and 2000's so I figured I would take a chance. I tried to test it with the record in, but I have no idea how to get to record in without the pads. Same goes for updating it.

I was thinking, is there a board that all of the outputs and the pads are attached to that could be bad? The firmware is running fine though. So what could be going on? A glitch in the firmware?

I'd say that's a bit of an understatement... The cheapest your going to find one in working order is probably $600. And that is a really fantastic deal.

THE MPC PADS DO NOT TRIGGER AND I COULD NOT GET THE MACHINE TO OUTPUT SOUND . . . IT IN OK COSMETIC SHAPE, THE MACHINE DOES TURN ON AND THE BUTTONS SEEM TO WORK FINE BUT NO SOUND OUTPUTS. ALSO THERE ARE A FEW KNOBS MISSING . . . I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE MPC AND AM SELLING AS IS FOR REPAIR OR PARTS.

That does sound like the unit he was describing.
