Resetting

Hey guys,

Sorry to be an annoying ****, but my firmware ain't resetting. I tried to whole erase thing and it just doesn't work. Any suggestions?

What exactly have you tried? Once again, you're going to need to be specific if you want help getting your new 2500 up and running.

You probably should have just posted this with your previous thread - so you don't have to keep explaining your situation.

It's starting to sound like Khaki Rudolph purchased a broken 2500 from eBay because he wants to repair it.

From what I've gathered the symptoms are: no sound from L/R outputs, no sound from his headphone jack, non-responsive pads and a "busted" CF Card eject button.

I'm not sure if simply reloading the OS is going to be the big fix here - but I guess it's worth a try. However, since your pads don't work, I'm not sure of a way for you to get into the load screen. If you could get in there, I don't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to reload Akai OS or even switch to JJ.

Since you didn't say anything about broken buttons, holding down the Window button when you switch the power on will start OS bootloader. If you have a .bin file on your CF card/hard drive, you may be able to load it up from there. (That is - if your CF slot isn't all messed up like you're making it sound...)

Also, holding the erase button when powering the unit on will reinitialize it.

I hope you have as much luck repairing this 2500 as you did the 1000s and 2000s...

I tested this tonight when updating OS-XL. OS bootloader didn't recognize the 3.19 .bin file - even thought it was in the root folder.

I've read that to update Akai OS you hold the window button when turning the unit on and there should be a file that says 2500.bin (provided you've added it to your CF/hard drive).

Maybe it didn't recognize mine because I was trying to load a JJ OS .bin file - or maybe because the file wasn't named MPC2500.bin or something like that...

I'm not sure. I've never used Akai OS so I've never had to update/reload it.

Either way, I just ended up updating my OS though the Load menu like I always have - just wanted to see if it would work the other way. I didn't play around with it too much though.

Now I doubt any of this will help you - but I just wanted to be more specific I guess.

window button only works with akai stock os, in order to update to xl gotta install free version of jjos then update to xl from load menu

I've been using OS-XL for a while so no need for the free JJ or anything. I definitely agree with what you're saying though.

I usually just update OS through the load menu like you said. This time I was just messing around with the alternate feature a little bit.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your suggestions. I got an akai CF and booted up the free JJOS, however, the problems still remain. I greatly appreciate all your help. Looks like I will have to drive up or send the mpc to a shop. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. I am beginning to think it is a hardware issue. Do you think it is a motherboard problem? Perhaps the connectors?

well... judging by the fact that you only paid $300 for an MPC that you knew was broken from the start....... i'm sure you'll still have a great deal after having paid the the bill to get it fixed... if all else fails, take it apart and sell it for parts...
