We need a sequencer to do the donkey work live can the MPC 2

Hi I need to no whether the MPC 2500 can be used to sequence many midi channels with notation so it can trigger other outboard modules we plan to get. We need a sequencer to do the donkey work when we play out live? Also if i was to program all my music Strings, Bass, Drum, e.t.c using logic can i then transfer all the notation via midi into the MPC 2500 then use the MPC 2500 to trigger modules playing back the midi parts?

If by notation you mean "notes"/"events", then yes. MPC 2500 is a MIDI Sequencer. You can export midi from logic and import it to MPC no probs.

from my limited expertise, id say no. mpcs can only load up 1 song at a time so unless u saved 10 songs strategically under the umbrella of one saved file/song, then no..

well id say yes - couldnt you load up a song, convert to sequence, then string a bunch of those sequences together as a new 'song'?

changing songs / sequences is not hard to do anyway. i think its perfect for what op wants.

if you're doing all your sequencing in Logic, it seems that it would be more logical to just trigger all your MIDI sequences from a laptop with a decent MIDI interface. as mentioned, the MPCs are more designed for loading one project at a time [with not the quickest loading times in between changes]. the mpc2500 is an extremely capable sampler/sequencer, but it doesn't sound like it's what you're looking for right now.

only if every single sequence has every single MIDI channel mapped out identically... if not, things could get a bit mixed-up in song mode.

you can have multiple songs in the mpc. plus you could treat your songs as full length sequences.

this way you can switch between your songs even faster.

be sure to get the mighty jjosxl asap!!

very true - good point.

i still say this is perfectly suited for op. even on old machines, loading up just midi data is almost instant. and there is nothing stopping them from having all songs loaded as sequences and just scrolling from one to the next. not automatic, but neither is playing guitar or something, and turning a knob one click to the right is really all that would be needed.

Yeah, OP's 2nd question isn't as easy to answer to cuz there are multiple things that matter here.

eg. are you storing all sounds as multitrack-audio to your mpc or just using it as a midi sequencer to control external gear / computer or some hybrid-thing etc... ?

But in general the answer is yes. MPC is able to play multiple 'songs' (sequences or a bunch of sequences) if you need it to.

We just want to use the MPC2500 to trigger midi to our external gear!
We want to program all our songs the in logic "Midi not Audio" on the G4 then transfer the midi data to MPC2500 "as sequenced songs" to trigger our sound modules, keyboard, etc.

Can the MPC2500 store midi sequenced data as seperate sequenced songs.
so song 1 sequenced is store in memory as a 5mins long?
Then at the press of a button can we go to sequencer 2 which has the midi sequence of song two and so on and so fouth.

Really hope this makes sense

i suppose in theory you could make long sequences from the midi data... to be honest i've never imported a MID file into my mpc so i'm not sure how it reads it... it can be done though... as mentioned you would just need to make sure all your sequences have the midi data mapped out properly to your hardware...

having said all that... if all you need the mpc for is a midi sequencer... then i'm going to recommend the mpc1000 in place of the 2500... accompany the 1000 with a midi solution MIDI-Thru box and you'll have a more portable and affordable version of the same exact sequencer.
