MPC Project Load - Clear entire memory?

Hey MPC Forums,

On my MPC 2500, I want to load a Project file from a folder I created. When I press "Do It," a screen pops up saying "Pressing DO IT will clear entire memory."

What does this mean? Will this clear all of the internal hard drive stored memory of samples and programs? If so, how can I load this project file without deleting any of the internal hard drived stored memory?

welcome to the forums!

on the mpc there are up to four different places to store data. there is a little area of the memory (about 16mb) that is called "internal", this is where the factory sounds are stored. you can overwrite this area with your own data, but only in one pass! that means if you store only one sample to that area and the store another it overwrites the first. so this area is best used for your standard samples (e.g. drum kits) you probably will use everytime.
then there is the cf-card or (if you got one) the harddisk. this is your place to save your work to store it permanently!
and last there is your memory (stock 16mb, if you have the expansion 128mb). this is your working area and every data that resides here will be lost if you turn off the machine! so save everything you want to keep to one of the other places before you quit working.
now for your problem: if you load a project file this allways will overwrite all of the memory. this is a great way to recall any state of the machine you saved it in, because it will load exactly the state of the machine when you saved the project.
to prevent any load/save problems i´d reccomend to allways save the entire memory to a new folder.
if you want to load a sample or a programm or a sequence you made without deleting whats currently in your memory, just go inside that folder and load the files that say prg, seq, etc.
also if you want to load everything that is inside a folder you can choose the entire folder to load.

Will loading a project file from the memory card permanently overwrite all of my internal memory? If so, how can I load a project file without doing this?

I have tried loading the individual parts but its too inconvenient to completely rearrange it all again to the original settings. That's when, after researching the web and the manual, I discovered to load the project file itself, and not individual components or even the entire folder itself.

I have a few programs on the 2500 which I do not want to overwrite.

You do not get it C Its ok you are new, and it is a warning! It does in no way alter what is on the CF card or hard drive. ie what you saved. It is just erasing the RAM, where all the samples and programs and sequences for that project go when you load it. See, simple. Now make sure you always make a new folder and save a new project in that folder so that way you do not over write other projects and programs..... even if is slightly different you will want to save it all so use a separate new folder to store everything for that project

So in other words, when booting up MPC, there is nothing on the RAM? Therefore I am overwriting nothing when I load the project file? Thanks!
