just got a mpc 2500

hey i got a mpc 2500, but its have jj os 5,5 on it ?? i cant find information about jj os 5,5. how can i just put the orginal akai mpc os on it ? so i cant learn first how to use the mpc and then can i download a jj os. my english is not so good so i can not really find the information on google, thanx

I do not know what OS you mean, that number (5.5) does not match any of the OS's.

Try the free JJ OS "mpc2500_jv310.bin" to learn with. It is the same as the Akai OS but has less bugs and gives you "Global Program Edit" so you can edit all the pads in a Program at once. Saves a lot of time.

Honestly if JJ is on it then learn JJ and get the value.

No reason to go back to the Akai OS and deal with the headaches only to bail on it.

You are fortunate that JJ now does a much better job of offering documentation, in the beginning we had little to no documentation do to the language barrier.
Now between the documentation and the number of user it much easier to understand.

You just need to verify what JJ version is really on the unit if at all, that's a strange version you referenced.

I Have JJ 5.56. Its an OS 1 version of JJ that I've stuck with. Its about 4 years old now but this version seemed to suit my needs better than the subsequent versions so far. The advantage with it is that it's got 4 Layers per pad instead of 3 and I think that the Q-Links to midi are no longer the same in later versions.

I would recommend sticking with the JJ OS, I had to change from Akai OS1.24 because there were problems with saving to Hard Drive, sometimes a lot of work would be lost. The workflow is much, much better & a lot of the Akai manual will still make sense with OS1, though the screens will look a little different.

I think the JJ password for your machine is stored in flash memory so that you can put Akai OS1.24 back in. Then later re-install JJ OS1 5.5x without having to pay for it again (that's if you can find the OS1 bin somewhere). But, I would ask around on the forum about this, just to make sure. I think you could also download the last version of OS1 (which is probably 5.56) and it would work on your MPC.

Yeah LZ, that is right OS1 is 5.56. I forgot about the version number on that.

And yeah the OP can switch back and forth and not lose his password. I still say just learn on JJ OS, JJ OS1 in this case. It's not so radically different you can't still use the Akai manual. It will mostly be pretty obvious where something is different and quickly see the advantage of the JJ change and just smile off that.

The OS 1 and 2 2500 .bin files are still on JJ's page. It's a blue hot link link to another screen though under the XL, OS3 and JJ Free listings.

thanks everybody but now i got a big problem i have use the mpc 2500 for 15minutes then i stopped and after 10 minutes i get back on the mpc and now the pads 1,5,9, and 13 stop working its strange because before they work and now they dont work anymore i am so mad now what can i do

i was just trying to make drums and look how to chops samples and then i turn the mpc off and then after 10 minutes i go back to the mpc 2500 and try to record a sample but cant press the pad record anymore and all the other pads above the record pad
