the last official update for the mpc 2500 was released in 2008 (!), so what do you 2500 users think? do you want akai to release another official os update for the mpc 2500?
(i know that there is an alternative os that added many features, but i left it out of this poll, because the users that like to use that os have their own dedicated forum with their own bug reports and feature requests so this tread is only about another official update from akai.)

do you have any bugs to report that are in os version 1.24?

or, do you have any feature requests that you like akai to add to a future update?

please be constructive in this tread and do not turn it into a "he said she said" thing.

- my first bug, that was reported to akai several years ago, is the behaviour of the harddisk drive (if there is one installed) that only will go into sleep mode after you loaded at least one thing from it. just switching from cf-card to harddisk doesn´t do it, the disk keeps on spinning forever, but as soon as you load something from it and go back to the main screen the hdd stops spinning after a few seconds.

- my first new feature request would be a global program edit function, because that is one feature that really helps the workflow.
- the second feature that would be really nice would be the possibility to use the q-links as midi-controllers, so they send out midi data to external gear or to the daw.

so, now please add to this list and let´s see if akai cares for their older products, which are still on sale and not legacy. they promised ongoing updates for all of their products, but still all the other machines got treated better than the mpc 2500 got. and that is not fair, because we all supported that company with buying what was the flagship product at that time and feel a little left alone as all the other products got way better than they were at release date!

thank you!

Akai 1.24 is pretty lame. I can't believe that the 2500 was still in production for so many years with such an iffy OS, the machine was let down badly by the programmers. JJ saved the day on this one.

Don't think Akai give a shit about the 2500 any more. But would be nice to see what Akai could come up with if they really tried. Like a bit of a vanity project for their programmers when they find themselves at a loose end. Doubt that'll happen though.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, your two feature requests are in JJOS-XL already :)

And seriously, there is no chance in hell that Akai are going to revisit any of their old MPCs. Why would they? The MPC2500 is no longer in production, so why would they spend money developing OS updates for it?

The lead developer on the MPC Software said this yesterday:

Peteblues wrote:It's hard to tell. The essentials and ren software use the same code base so I would think that as long as it's selling well, it'll get worked on.

I think that's pretty clear - if something is selling well, it gets updates. If not, it gets dumped. This isn't an Akai diss, as it's the approach most companies would take. But I do think people need to get with the program on the legacy MPC situation - these things are old, discontinued products, so Akai are not going to update them unless they think they can make a profit.

But brass tacks, the MPC2500 is being updated continually by JJ, so I'm not entirely sure why people think there's a need for an official Akai update (I doubt it would be free if they did release one). As someone already mentioned, they made a pig's ear of 1.24, so there's no evidence to suggest they'd do a better job 5 years later.

ok, i was afraid that exactly this would happen and everyone would point at the alternative os instead of supporting my issue to confront akai with their bad update politics in the case of the mpc 2500.

as long as the alternative os does not have direct recording it is a no go for me unfortunately. and no, audio tracks are not the same!
the only thing that got slower in os 1.24 is chopshop, what does not slow me down, because i am not using it at all!

my mpc does all the things i bought it for and it will do this for all time, but still i feel that this particular model was treated not as good as all the other product lines have.
yes, i know that my requests seem to come years too late, but this is the very reason for my rants, because akai promised ongoing updates and new features in that time before the mpc 5000 came out, but then they did nothing to the mpc 2500 in that timeframe when it was still an active selling product. and nobody can say that we did not tell akai about the bugs and asked for features in the active product selling time! just read the treads on this very forum from that time!

so akai can do whatever they want to do with all the other products, i do not care anymore and will not ever promote any of their products to anyone ever. that maybe of no concern to them, but i am not just "one person", i am very active in the music community and i am one of these persons everyone around me (and that can easily be thousands of people in this times of the internet and global communication!) asks for help or for suggestions for every music gear and technology related issues, so i am what is called a "multiplicator", like a dj spreading new music or like a journalist whos words are read by many.

these are just my personal feelings towards a company who treated me as a customer bad and still does! come on, adding global program edit can´t be that hard!

ok, tutor you can close this, because everyone seems to be happy with the things as they are and will continue to buy nukai products and hope they will care. the german elections on the next weekend will also show the stockholm syndrom in most of the german people and they will vote for the same government that f...ed up the last years... :WTF:

That statement caught my eye as well, which tells me to hold off on ren purchase even more...ren getting all kind of discounts isnt good indication

I think the least AKAI could do would be to release the final official AKAI OS for the 2500 as open source. That way, others could pick up the ball and continue the work. I know I will be hated for my opinion, but open source OS would be the best for the community as everyone (with the programming chops) could make their own revisions/refinements to the OS.

It'sa dead discontinued product that they didn't support when it was generating revenue so the is NO chance whatsoever of an update.

They showed us with the 1k pads that they won't correct blatant problems.
They showed you with the 2500 that they didn't care about potential In a product or bug fixes.
They showed us with the 5k that we mistakes and it's easier to derail the train then repair the tracks.

If you have to have direct record and can't use the JJ workaround then you are stuck with all the shortfalls that come with it.

To be honest a good alternative to direct record on the 2500 might be to try the MV8800.
The way you record to tracks is really nice.

As far as Akai giving a d*mn no chance but you can always get in touch with them a wait for a reply saying they might be able to do something.
Like they said about the 4k, 500, 5k, 1k..........2500.

i'd rather get an updated version of JJOS1 before the AKAI OS.

More like I would rather use the original free JJ than the Akai OS.........oh wait that's what we did.

I guess in 2013 it must be harder for new users to understand why JJ caught on so quick.
I remember I was a 2500 owner then and we were crying will JJ ever do the 2500.
I guess people don't remember those days when the 1k was better than the 2500 because we were stuck on the Akai OS.

Akai wasn't supporting us then and the 2500 was it's flagship.

Kinda sad that Akai earned the all the bad press they get.

that is interresting news to me - must look into it some more as i have not followed the development of the jj os that close, because i always thought that there was no such thing as direct recording which is essential to my way of using the mpc.

or are you talking about the "audio tracks" feature on the last tracks of the sequencer?

the mv 8000/8800 are also nice boxes - i like the way the sequencer looks on the display almost like a daw and the fact that you can connect a mouse and even a big screen, but then there are some "rolandesque" shortfalls or workflow quirks that i never found a good way to get along with - so it will be the mpc for me, definately.

as i said above my mpc 2500 as it is can do everything i bought it for and it would only be the icing on the cake if there was a "final" edition of the akai os with no bugs and maybe global program edit.
