MPC2500 for live application, no software...

Hi all,

So currently i'm working on an MPC2000, which I love and cherish. Recently though i've had an urge to take this show on the road, and I really don't want to be turning up to gigs with such a heavy beast, wondering whether my floppy disks are going to work or not.
So a bit of an upgrade is probably in order. Essentially I want to have an SD card with all my sequences and programs on it. Does the 2500 read SDs in the same way that the 2000 reads floppys?
Also with regards to the assignable outputs, will they need to be programmed each time a program is loaded or will that information be saved also?

Sorry if these are pretty basic Qs, just want to check a few things before i pretty much bankrupt myself for a sexy new toy

why don´t you just install a sd-card reader in your mpc 2000? ok, it will still be heavy, but then for that you can use a case or a suitcase with wheels.

the mpc 2500 loads and saves to the sd-card or to the internal harddrive (if you install one or your particular model comes with one preinstalled) just like any mpc. more on that in the public available manuals.

you can not load anything while the sequencer is running, but you can load a whole lot more samples and sequences as on the 2000 if you upgrade the memory to 128mb (or if your particular model has the expansion preinstalled).

if you assign the programable outputs and/or fx sends in a program and save that then it will be recalled if you load that program again. also as a bonus you can use the input thru function to route external sounds thru the mpc input to the effects!

Awesome, thanks for the reply. I guess an SD card upgrade for the 2000 would be an option, but to be honest i think i've talked myself into a sale with the 2500 already

The assignable outs will be a veritable godsend, and the ability to route external sounds through the MPC sounds pretty exciting too, especially for a live set, while I load more sequences.

...keep in mind, a 1000 can do EXACTLY the same as the 2500, but is half size and weight...

the 2500 is even BIGGER than your old hotrod....

...also keep in mind that your 2000 programs and sequences can't be transferred and translated to the nukai machines that easy....

especially when it comes to the use of jjos....which is kind of a must...

I'm also thinking about presence on-stage, which the 2500 will definitely have more of.

I guess i'm anxious about working the 2000 too hard... it's been a reliable old work horse so far, would be a damn shame to gig it into oblivion.

there was forum member here from bay area who started doing live gigs with two 2500's....I believe one was drums other samples
