I'm using an MPC 2500 w/JJOS-XL with a MicroKorg connected via two midi cables. When I press play start, it changes the preset on my synthesizer to the first patch on its list. (I've looked in the JJOS manual, searched the forum, etc., but maybe I'm not using proper keywords.) Thanks in advance.

check your microkorg manual on how to set it to not recieve midi program change and/or midi bank change messages. these settings have to be switched to off if you don“t want to change the program or bank on the microkorg from the mpc.

another reason for this behaviour can also be that you have a (midi) track on the mpc set to program "no. 1", which is intended to send program and bank change messages from the mpc to synths or soundmodules. highlight this field and press the "window" button and look if "transmit program changes" and "bank select" are both set to off.

this feature can also be very useful - for instance your microkorg is only monotimbral (wich means it can play only one program at one time and not many sounds like a multitimbral synth, like e.g. an alesis micron wich can play up to eight programs at the same time) and so you can use that program and bank change messages directly in your tracks on the mpc to use different sounds from the microkorg "automatically" when changing tracks on the mpc. and you can store that with your programs and sequences on the mpc so there is an easy recall, as the mpc tells the microkorg which sounds to choose for what track.

peace, jo

I switched off the receive program change option on my Korg and that solved my problem. Thank you very much. I had no idea you could change presets by midi. I'm gonna have to figure out how to use that sometime. It sounds useful.

That worked perfectly. Thanks a lot.
