How do I setup the MPC 2500 to see both the DVD-ROM and inte

I just installed a DVD-ROM drive and I can no longer access the hard drive. Only by removing the DVD-ROM drive can I access the hard drive. Although I am not entirely sure, I can also access it if there's no disc in the DVD-ROM. When the DVD-ROM shows up, it is displayed as hard drive instead of CD-ROM.

When I installed the hard drive a few months ago, I didn't set the master/slave pins. The drive is a Toshiba model I cannibalized from an old laptop with pin 47 removed. It could be that I botched the mod or the DVD-ROM just won't work, but why would the DVD-ROM display as hard drive?

I also never updated the firmware or operating system on the 2500. Could this make a difference? Could it explain why it sees the DVD-ROM as a hard drive? Perhaps, whatever OS is installed doesn't support the DVD-ROM? Is there a system information screen?

unfortunately the internal architecture of the mpc let´s you only see one device at a time. that means the mpc can only see the harddrive OR the dvd OR the cf-card but not two of them at a time.

so if you are in the load or in the save screen you see the field "load from" or "save to" and there it says "cf-card", "harddrive" or "dvd" if you move the cursor to the field and turn the data wheel (or use the + and - keys).
you have to set that everytime you want to access another device or if you want to connect the mpc to your computer over usb - then the mpc is essential an usb-hub that only connects one device at a time.

the same goes for the record screen you can also select from where the mpc should sample "input stereo" or "left" or "right" or "dvd-drive" or "main out". notice that there will be no level indicator if you sample from a cd or dvd, because the mpc will automatically set the best level for that.

also i would recommend to update the os to one of the last official akai versions 1.23 or 1.24 (biggest difference in 1.24 is chopshop in stereo, but much slower. so if you don´t use the chopshop feature version 1.24 is the best) for the bugfixes. the functions for the cd/dvd-drive were added in os version 1.1, so if you are on an older version i would also update. you can see your os version in mode->pad10
