midi to usb suggestions?

i figured instead of buying an mpd to use with my daw's it'd make more sense to get midi to usb support for my mpc 2500. i see a lot of midi to usb cables at different ranges of prices and im wondering if there is any real advantage to buying a more expensive one like this http://www.amazon.ca/M-Audio-Midisport- ... would there be any latency or compatibility issues with the cheaper one or is this equivalent to buying expensive ram from akai and buying one for the fraction of the price somewhere else on the internet?

has anyone had any experience using cheaper midi cables with the mpc 2500?

I've got that M-Audio one and I can highly recommend it. Everything works and I haven't had any problems with any gear.

Those cheap cables are really unpredictable - they might work or they might not. Personally I'd say just get the M-Audio once and enjoy using it for a long time instead of having to buy new ones all the time. I mean it costs 5 bucks for a reason, so they had to cut corners somewhere.

Or get the cheap one, try it out with your MPC and just return it if it doesn't work.

Do not get a cheapy. Mine does not do much other than sync. Sequencing is a no-go.

roland um-one. used one for ages when i had no interface, works great.
used to lock to DAW and track with it, they are like 30 bucks

+1 - this is what i have and it does what it's supposed to. no latency issues at all, no stability issues. only pain in the a$$ was getting the driver set up. mac doesn't recognize it in midi studio, but live recognizes it no sweat, so that's all i'm concerned with.

there are so many variables that come into play. basically, the less you spend, the more you're rolling the dice. at $30 - $40 bucks, you'll get something that will do the job.

i'm kind of confused by that statement because the midisport 2x2 is more expensive than the midisport uno and the roland um-one, i have the option to get a really good deal on the midisport 2x2 so i was wondering about it quality and compatibility wise with the mpc2500 if you know anything about it, if so i would love to know more.
