Is the MPC 1000 an alternative for the MPC 2500?

I have an MPC 2500 which I'm really happy about, problem is that it is beginning to show it's age. The buttons and dials are getting more and more unpredictable, and it's a pain in the a..

I'm using the 2500 almost entirely for MIDI sequencing and some short-note samples, so I'm thinking if the 1000 may be possible to take over from the 2500? After all, I'm using maybe half the capabilities in the 2500.

Maybe some of you have tried both models?

My main concern is the reduced LCD on the 1000, but is it an issue IRL? Also, I've got no idea if the 1000 can really handle 15 MIDI devices as punctual as the 2500?

The 1000 can do what you need it to do, but remember the 1000 was discontinued years ago so you'll get the exact same button and dial problems with the 1000 as well.
Any electronics service centre can replace faulty buttons and switches, it's a very easy job. The buttons might just need cleaning with Deoxit (i.e. the tact switches underneath). Plenty of info about doing all these jobs yourself here on the forum, otherwise I'd suggest you take your MPC to a service centre and get it repaired rather than just chucking it and buying another MPC destined to have the same problems.

I have both the 1000 and 2500 under jjos. They are equally powerful. JJOS blurs the software differences between 1000 and 2500
The 2500 features 4 midi outs (vs 2 for the 1K) which is hard to beat and really handy if you have many synths. You also have more separate analog outputs
If you move around a lot, the 1000 is a no brainer since you can throw it in almost any backpack.
Both are great units, but you should be prepared to perform some maintenance and soldering from time to time. Early mpc 1K (the blue ones) are known to have faulty pads which are costly to replace or upgrade. Prefer the later black models.

yeah for sure try the deoxit thing... that often works wonders. It might be useful on all the other hardware you have around the studio as well...

and in case you are looking for an excuse to get another MPC anyways, the 1000 is the same as the one you have function wise minus a few things on the hardware end of it as mentioned.. but perhaps you can look into the 4000 which could be maybe add features you don't already have instead of mirroring them.

I'd rather break an arm than replace my 2500.

The idea came up is because I were in a music shop where they were selling the 1000 "new" - meaning it was still in the original box, and had never been opened at all I'm pretty sure.
