Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

hi Guys,

I've just moved to a new house and my whole studio is in storage for the time being.
The MPC500 is the only piece of gear I can use at the moment.

I'd like to know if I can load my MPC500 projects into my MPC2500 when I rebuilt my studio so I can continue the tracks i've started.
I understand only 12 samples per bank will be loaded.

My MPC2500 is in storage in a place where I can't reach it without having to move all kinds of other stuff, otherwise i'd be able to test it myself.

The other reason i'm asking is because this MPC compatibility guide doesnt answer my question:,
https://www.mpc-samples.com/article/mpc ... tibility-1

The part where is says:
From the MPC1000 onwards, Akai implemented a new PGM file format, most likely to help cope with the additional complexity required of the format. This unfortunately meant that MPCs made before the MPC1000 are not able to read this new MPC format.

I could conclude that MPC2500 pgm's are not readable on pre MPC1000 mpc's, so that means the MPC500...

Hello!

Here is a compatibility chart for the mpc 500: https://www.akaipro.com/mpc500

As you can see the mpc 500 is compatible with mpc 1000 and mpc 2500 seq, wav and pgm files. you only have to restrict the number of pads used to twelve if you want to use stuff you make on the 2500 on the 500 afterwards. if you work the other way round for the time being your sequences, samples and programs made on the 500 should load fine into the 2500 later.

What might have confused you was the sentence "MPCs made before the MPC1000 are not able to read this new MPC format". As the mpc 500 came out after the mpc 1000 and mpc 2500 it is the youngest of the three so it is backwards compatible to those within its hardware limits (12 pads), but the rest of the system is very similar to the mpc 1000 and 2500.

peace, jo

JJOS1 and Akai files are interchangeable.

In my article, the term 'before MPC1000' is referring to the generations of MPCs that came before the MPC1000, such as the 4000, 2000XL, 2000 etc. The 1000/2500/500 are the same generation of MPC, with the same file compatibility. So yes, your 500 projects will load into the 2500 and vice versa.
