Multitracking MPC2500

yo, trying to finalise my mpc2500. I want to utilise the multitracking capabilities of the machine, recording it into Ableton.

I was planning on buying a UMC1820 interface as that comes with 8 inputs which I can extend in the future if needed. Do any of you recommend this interface/ are there any better alternatives for similar prices?

Also, when recording samples from my mac into the machine, im guessing id use one of the 8 outputs on the UMC1820 to record straight in to the MPC? Additionally, if I wanted to swap between sampling vinyl and tracks from my Mac, rather than swapping round cables would it be best to invest in a mixer?

one thing to watch out for when tracking the mpc thru the individual out 1-8 instead of the main out is that the internal effects are only working on the stereo out!

so you can track thru the individual outs, but if you want to use the internal effects or the master effects, then you will have to track each track or pad seperately thru the main out.

or you can resample your tracks with the internal effects first and then track them out thru the individual outs.

for sampling from the mac you can do it like you described - for sampling vinyl it depends on the turntable you have. if your turntable has a line out built in you can connect it directly to the inputs of the mpc - if your turntable ha no preamp built in you have to use an riaa preamp like in every dj mixer or in a home stereo and then connect an output from that device to the mpc input.

Interesting. I did not know that FX are only on the main out. Is this true with all versions of MPC or just the 1000/2500 series?

I bought a friend the UMC1820 for Christmas one year when it was really cheap on sale and it works great. You need ASIO4ALL as a third party application to help map the ASIO. The UMC1820 doesn't really come with any pretty front end mixer console or GUI graphic interface. You just install the drivers and the computer sees the drivers and you have to manage everything else from within your DAW. That was the biggest change for me since the E-MU 1820M i had and the presonus 1818vsl and motu mkIII i had all had graphical mixer interfaces with some easy routing options and templates and such.
