Hi guys, hope you’re all doing well.
I own a 2500 and I really like its sound — I’m pretty confident I can recognize it and understand how it behaves.
Like most I’m finding myself needing to speed up my workflow for certain productions and types of work. Being directly connected to my Mac (Logic and MPC) via a simple USB cable, managing MIDI, tracks, and changes , would help me a lot.
I also feel that upgrading to JJOS XL (and eventually to the latest OS version) is quite expensive on the 2500, and in any case it still wouldn’t give me a machine that integrates seamlessly with my DAW.
So I’m starting to consider keeping the money I would spend on the upgrade and instead buying a used MPC X.
I’ve watched several videos on YouTube, including comparisons with some vintage machines. The sound of the X seems solid to me but slightly different — it feels like it has coherent drum dynamics but more compression and even a bit of that low-end character I really enjoy in the 2500. However, since I’ve never actually had an MPC X in front of me, I’m not completely sure if what I’m hearing is accurate.
As a reference, I listened through my Genelec studio monitors, Sony MDR-7506 headphones, and also AirPods 4.
Does anyone here know the sound of the MPC X well enough to share some insight?
Any thoughts or advice before I decide to sell my 2500?
Thanks in advance for your time!
