Product Description
The Akai Professional MPC2500 Music
Production Center combines a 64-Track MIDI
Sequencer with a 32-voice 16bit Stereo Digital
Sampler. The MPC is a rock solid sequencing
and drum programming machine with 16
velocity and pressure sensitive rubber pads.
The unit allows you to sample more efficiently.
This composition center is contained in one
extremely powerful desktop unit.
Designed for professional audio production,
the MPC2500’s intuitive and ergonomic
interface makes it the ultimate user friendly
composition studio
Two internal effects processors can be used
simultaneously. This includes a wide range of
effects algorithms, such as reverb, bit
grunger, chorus, phasers, flying pan, 4-band
EQ, compressor, and a phase shifter.
Real-time control is provided by two note
variation sliders and two Q-Link knobs. Q-link
knobs can be separately assigned to allow
flexible, real-time performance control of a
wide variety of selectable parameters. These
parameters include level, pan, filter cut-off and
resonance, tuning, LFO(low frequency
oscillator) speed depth, all effect parameters
and more.
Each assignable Q-Link knob can generate
MIDI controller data so that all performance
information can be recorded and played back
from within a sequence. The Q-Link
sequencer allows cyclic modulation
programming.
Following the highly acclaimed MPC60 and
MPC3000, 2 MIDI inputs and 4 MIDI outputs
come standard enabling 64 external MIDI
channel operation. In addition, the
MPC2500 can individually control its onboard
sampler up to 64 Parts, allowing users to
assign a different program on each track.
A large LCD screen allows a clear view of
sequence data displaying features such as a
piano roll, or a drum machine 'grid'.
Continuous MIDI data can be shown as well
as edited graphically.
The MPC2500 comes with 16MB of onboard
memory which can be expanded up to 128
MB of RAM via the optional EXM128 memory
card.
The MPC2500 has the capability of an
optional internal 80GB Hard Disk and CD-RW
drives.
Positioning
Akai Professional, in its pursuit to remain the
leader of digital sampling technology has
released the MPC 2500. This unit designed for
professional audio production, offers drum
programming, sequencing, and sampling
capabilities. Artists now have the luxury of
producing music with a compact music
composition center.

FAQs
Q. What are the benefits of having two MIDI INPUTS and four MIDI OUTPUTS?
A. The two MIDI Inputs allow connection of a MIDI controller (keyboard, drum pads) to one input, while the other input is
used to receive MIDI Sync from another unit such as a digital recorder. Otherwise, you would need an outboard MIDI
Merger. The four Midi Outputs allow the MPC2500 to control 64 external MIDI Channels (16x4), in conjunction with the 128
internal Programs. This is very useful if you have more than one outboard multi-timbral sound generator (for instance, your
keyboard and a sound module). This also allows using a dedicated MIDI output MIDI Sync.
Q. What is Chopshop and Patched Phrase?
A. Chopshop is used for sampled phrases such as a drum beat. This function measures the amplitude on a drum beat and
“chops” the rhythm sections into separate parts onto the pads of the MPC. This is great for making a drum kit from a sampled beat.
Patched Phrase takes one sample and divides it into several regions which creates sequence data used for playing these
regions. This allows you to move the regions together giving you the effect of time stretching a sample in real time without
changing its pitch.
Q. What is Grid Edit?
A. Grid editing is similar to step entering note values on a drum machine. This allows users to graphically create beats to a
note value grid, rather than play them in real time into the MPC.
Q. What are the Q-Link controls?
A. The MPC2500 has two Q-Link™ knobs, and two Q-Link™ sliders, that can be separately assigned to allow flexible realtime
control of a wide variety of selectable parameters including amplitude, filter cut-off and resonance, sample start offset,
effect send, sample tune and more. Control of an entire program or an individual sound assigned to a single keygroup is
possible. Each assignable Q-Link™ control is also capable of generating MIDI controller data to external sound generators,
so that all performance information can be recorded and played back from the MPC2500’s sequencer.
Q. Can I install the optional Hard disk and CD-ROM drives myself? Is this difficult to do?
A. We recommend that you have a qualified Akai service technician install these options for you. Otherwise you may
damage your MPC as well as void your warranty.

I like the design and colors. Nice improvements from the XL. Wondering what the price is on this.

yeah. i customized my 2kxl so i wont leave it till it is dead. Its cool though casue staying with a machine for years is a good thing casue you learn it inside out.

Take it with a grain of salt, mate. It might end up being less. All I know is how much it'll retail for where I am, and that's what I based that figure off.
