People have put it out there about loading the 2500 OS into the 1000. Soooooo what would happen if you put the 2000Xl's OS in a 3000? Is this really possible? I WILL NOT DO IT--just with all the talk I'm sure someone has tried. Will it fry circuits or even start up?

nah man that ain't goin to work.

only way it would work is if u are some hacker and knew how to change some of the code.

...actually i woudn't be surprised if someone with the mad programming skills could transfer the grid and chop shop of mpc2.5k to the 1k os... but like i said it's harder than just loading it up.

The new o.s for the 1k includes the chop shop. We're just missing that grid editor.

Will the MPC 1000 have the continuous audio track?

Ok. That's one. Anymore features that the 2500 (software) has that the 1000 will not get with the next OS uodate?

chop shop for another. i can go on but what's the use. yes the new 1k os is way more advanced than the current 1k os but they couldn't put too much in because that would damage the sales of the 2.5k but just enough to keep it's 1k fan base.

I hope that isn't an official reason. The MPC 1000 can have the indentical OS as the 2500 and I would still spend the extra dollars for the hardware features of the 2500.

that is the reason. You should welcome the news. A big headache in Akai.

J, you're double talking. your question was related to software, not hardware. if you want a good enough response to a question, don't limit a person's response by putting () around a word. to answer your question regarding software, i gave it ^^^

a few comparison questions about the 1k 2.0 vs 2.5k 1.0 on some smaller features. these features for me are what really made the 2.5k speed up my workflow.

1. Program changes: Does the 1k now have a program change feature for midi tracks that is similar to the 2.5k (and 2k) where you set the Pgm: # in the "Program" field of a track (off the main screen)? I'm lookin' for compatibility between sequences on my 2.5k and 1k. Or do you still have to program in the CC PC codes in the sequence?

2. Sample Chopping: I know there is no Chop Shop but a feature of the 2.5k that has really helped me out is the "AUTO L" feature in LOOP trim mode. It will help crop the sample at the right point if you feed it BPM and number of bars you want.

3. Something about the 1k that has always annoyed me and the 2.5k fixed: If you load a PRJ (call it "MyProject"), do some work in it, and then "SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY" again the project name defaults back to "Project01" so you have to retype "MyProject" every time you save. On the 2500 it "remembers" the name of the project that I loaded so it stream-lines my workflow a bit better by not making me stop to dial in the name...again.

4. Can the 1k play a patched phrase? I know it can't make them. I'm not sure if you're a 2500 user or not but if not hit me with a PM I'll send you a PP if you'd like to try it out.

Thanks, sparq

yes, you can do program changes in the program field of a track.

i have to look into that. i haven't had the need for that (yet) so i will check and post it back here.

i know i created a project with the new os and resaved it but i don't remember if i had to retype the name or if it remembered it. (i was in a zone) so i'll check on that too.

nah, i don't have a 2.5k yet. but yes, you can play PP's (if i'm understanding you correctly) it can create and play. the new OS has patched phrase abilities now. you need to check my videos on the new os. peep the link in my signature. i have one on patched phrases

the new 1k os is totally compatible with the 2.5k. the new os even has mixer automation.

if it has the "AUTO L" feature then i'm phyc'ed! i mean, OS 2.0 already sounds dope and i'll be thrilled with it regardless but having the quick chopping features would *really* help me with sampling on the 1k. that'd for sure be the sampler i'd take out to sessions and whatnot and then bring it home to the 25k. i make techno so i need to be able to sample things in 'x' bar loops and have them be tight and finding the left side on a 1k is a real b1tch. i usually end up using a calculator to compute sample length based on bpm and number of bars...sorta slow.

maybe there is a better way i'm missing...

did u know the new os has a beat detector?

By zs941 Tue Nov 01, 2005 10:21 pm
nope, didn't know that. i haven't been following the threads on the update much just because whenever it comes out i'll get it and work with whatever it has. no sense wondering about things too much :-)
