Locate window working or OS bug?

For the past couple weeks I have been trying to figure out the Locate window without reading the manual. I finally got around to checking the manual tonight. Does this function actually work?

I was under the impression that you simply put the cursor in the Now field and then press the GO TO key. At least that's the way you would expect it to work based on similar MPCs. In the 4000 the cursor doesn't even have to be in the Now field. You just press the GO TO key and the Locate window opens and closes with each press of the key.

The 2500 Operator Manual does not say much about this subject. Have any of you gotten the GO TO key to open the Locate window? The GO TO key works with the arrow keys to move through the sequence but it doesn't open a window like it should. Am I missing something here or is this an OS bug?

The 'Go To' function is not implemented in the first OS. But since it says that it works in the manual, we can qualify this as a 'bug'. Damn these roaches

Not implemented? Like AKAI forget to include it? Or it just doesn't work even though the operator manual has documented it.

What other things are not working that should be? Good thing I have a habit of slowly introducing new gear instead of rushing into it. Surprises like this one are uncool.

I will not even sound pro-Akai on this one. I received a vague answer so I really don't know. Others in the forums have contacts so maybe they will jump in an give an answer.

But, I was never big on this function. Honestly, I have never used it with any MPC that I have owned. But since it is there and the manual says it works..Akai needs to fix it.

About the review I said I was going to do...I wanted to be fair and at least wait to the MPC 2500 drops here in the US and to see if it will ship with a new OS before I slam it. I do have a list of things that I like and dislike. Some I have already talked about.

There is already a thread for Feedback to Akai. But , there needs to be a specific one...strictly for reproduceable 'bugs'..

You've got to be kidding. Or you never write anything longer than the standard 2-bar default.

Most of time I write sequences that are 4 or 8 bars. Sometimes they're as long as 12 bars. When I begin a new song I sometimes let it go on for 20 bars or much longer. This is where the Locate function is critical. Then during one of my next sessions I begin to divide the long sequence into several smaller sequences.

No I am not kidding and I use more than a 2 bar default. Maybe you just don't know there are other ways to create music with your MPC???

I do not use the MPC as a stand alone workstation...that is wasting it. It is the center of my extensive MIDI set-up.

Myself...I create short sequences..intro, verse, chorus/hook, bridge, etc. These short sequences can be bewteen 4-32 bars long. Once I have these sequences completed, I use the song mode to create a song from the sequences. I have never used the 'Go-To' functiom.

My other method is to use the MPC slaved to my software recording workstation (Nuendo 3.1). Nuendo has locate points and does a better job than what any MPC has on board, as far as the 'Go-To' or locate functions.

But you should know this since you use an MPC 1000,2000XL, 2500, 4000, MV-8000, and what else did you say I had to slip that in
