CD-M25 also a DVD Rom drive

Ok. I just opened the box of the CD-M25. It is a CDRW drive and a DVD!

But...with the MPC 2500s 1.00 OS, it can only be used as a CD-Rom drive and an audio CD player. Akai, I ain't mad at you one bit....but it would have been nice to use 3rd party drives.

So far, the CD-M25 is working properly.

Where did you get it from? Do you have any for sale?

as i stated in a different thread, Akai US has them in their warehouse.


however, right now the only way a person can get them is if they go to their local dealer and ask them to call akai to order it. akai will then ship it to the store immediately. they are trying to work out a way for the person wanting it to order it directly from akai.

Ok so, CD-M25, does this burn data, audio, both, or neither?
That is, is it just a disk reader?

You can always count on me to get Akai gear before dealers in the USA get their hands on them My peeps in Japan hooked a brother up.

I have no intention on selling these units..no money in it. Contact Alto Music. They will have them within days to a week. I would also check VST Service as well.

So far so good with the CD-M25. I can load wav files from CD-Roms and even preview sounds from CD-Rom before loading. It also plays back commercial CDs as well as CD-Rs. I decided to test other Akai format CDs with no success. I also tried to load Acid files and received an eye opening result. I can see the Acid files on disk and even load them. I can see the actual waveforms in the sample trim mode..but they all playback as 'white noise'. That part is interesting because you can clearly see an accurate waveform....Sooooooo. Let me put this out there first. The MPC 2500 may be able to read Acid files in the future Not that I want/need it to..but another function some may find useful.

So then it is infact a CD-RW DVD unit like we orginally saw stated from Akai?

Jahrome, when you get a chance, let me know if it reads wave files from CD-RW and DVD-R discs as well with the current OS.

Acid WAVE files?

Be more specific since your putting yourself out there big man.
People will be trying to load PROJECT files from Acid cause you said
ACID files. You KNOW someone will try it.

I wasn't that serious about the Acid files but in excitement, I believe (no real basis or logic) it may be possible in the future.....actually, I just tried again and the Acid files loaded with no problem. However, there is no tempo information in the files.

I want to clarify this as Acid wave files. If anyone has any small Acid wave or project files they want me to try..email them to me.


Now as far as the CD-M25...it can:

1. Play commercial CDs
2. Play CD-Rs w/ wave files
3. Load wav files on CD-R and DVD-R
4. Load (import) complete audio files from commercial CDs
5. Preview from commercial CDs, CD-Rs, and DVD-Rs

This is all with OS 1.00b.

If you mean..does it burn CD-Rs or DVD-Rs...the answer is no with the current OS 1.00b. Burnig functions are not mentioned anywhere in the MPC 2500s manual. The CD-M25 is a CDRW drive and DVD Rom player though. CD burning features will most likely be included with an OS update (based on the info on Akai USAs website) but no DVD burning, because it is not a DVD writer.

The MPC 2500 can play audio CDs and CD-Rs with wav files while sampling.

i'm not sure but maybe sparq was getting at this: can you record a sample by playing back a cd? rather than importing an entire track from an audio cd, can i go to the position in the song that i want and record (in record mode or the like) a sample just like i would from external gear?

thanks, that too but what i really meant was instead of resampling the main outs of my song to a wav file and either saving it on the hard drive or putting it on the CF cad, can i burn my songs to the cd either by burn while song plays or just burn the wav file. and as far as the DVD, i don't think that will ever be a possiblity to burn onto the DVD as the CDM25 is not a cd-rw/dvd writer. but i wanted to know can it read DVD's currently?

Can you put a DVD movie like the matrix in and sample from it?

The CD-M25 is a CD Writer and a DVD rom player. As of OS 1.00, there are no CD writing functions. Yes..it CAN read DATA on CD-R and DVD-R media

There is no way to write any data on CD media.

As I stated before, you can play an audio CD and sample it. The CD functions has transport controls so you can skip tracks or fwd through to a certian part of a song to play and sample. No, you can not play a commercial DVD and sample it. I haven't tried putting songs on a DVD-R to see if I can play it back and sample.
