Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

I just bought my 2500.
And... I love it!!

did you know that it can sample when you play a sequence?
well, if you play any other instrument than the mpc then that is really good news. you can now use the machine as a nice little(..) multitracker. especially with continous sample pad that plays your sample (for example a vocal track) until it ends. (if its longer then your beat...)

I like the sound of the machine too. Its sounds more under control then the 1000, remaining crisp. more like the 2000xl actually.

for me it has al the benefits from the 2000(the pads) and the 1000
and then something very extra!

There is only one bug in the OS I think: the slider works weird.
If I play a sample live ,for example a brasshit, and want to open up the cut off filter, the filter only sounds like the position it is at when it moves. if a play the sample another time its sounds normal (not filter again)
I did not have this problem with the 1000.
so hope its a bug..

Man, good stuff my dude.

I played with it at Guitar Center. Even the Factory sounds in that thing are crazy! If i can get rid of this 1000, i'm getting it within the next month or so.

I'm trying to get that feeling..haha

stije, welcome to the fam. Take some time reading through some of the 2500 threads. There is some useful information.

JayL32, you found the factory sounds crazy? Damn..that was the first thing I did was delete them :D

I have the 2000xl and 1000, now I'm getting rid of the 2xl giving it to a friend for free, but keeping the 1k upgrade it for future use with the new 2500. The two go hand n hand. one in the studio, and one for portable use. T"

the 2500 samples directly into the sequence track.

really..

with the new os?

I'm pretty experienced with reading manuals but didn't see it..
will that sample be a recorded event aswell? (so it's sync..)

I've just been spending the whole weekend building tracks and I'm falling more and more in love with the machine. the pads are great and delay is remains a great effect for little background variations.
the whole feel of the thing is just nice, for me, much better than the thousand.

there are still a few bugs though:

cuting with the sliders doesnt allways work, it selects but doesn't actually cut, the sample remains the same.
and slices to program works a little weird it seems as if it still gets the slices out of the sample data so of you cut up a drumbeat and for example program the hihats on the 8ths, than if you want to record a kick and a snare they are cut off. as if it cant play parts of the same sample at the same time. its still use full if you choose the cuts that you like and copy them (so they become samples of their own.

and he Dj T the AD2500 program does have useful sounds! which is ,I think, a unique situation in the history of Akai (and I am a wax sampling purist)

I found one more brand of RAM that doesn't work :
APACER (GCL SODIMM 256MB SDR 133MHZ) bummer...

but you can still make a whole album with only 16 MB!

I'm sending my 1000 to a friend in Kenya !
check out this website:
http://www.kiliochahaki.com/index2.html

I produced and recorded that album (with kid kamau and damu moto!).

they are now building a permanent studio there (so they might need a extra mpc or two (If you have to get rid of your old two or one thousand....)

I an on a quick lunch break so I will get back to this thread.

stije, some of the things you posted as a bug..is no bug. I will get back to you though. The 2500 has 2 ways to sample directly into a sequence..with w/ OS 1.00.

I hope nick at vst call me tomorrow to tell me he finally shipped out my 2500 just waiting for the cd drive. Reading all the posts on the machine is getting me excited. Hey jarome are you going to tell us about that bug that no one else found?

In the way most people will use it, the 'bug' will never occur. I found it..reproduced it everytime, and forwarded the results to Akai. I will keep it to myself until another user finds it or Akai releases as OS update to fix it.

There are several MPC 2500 'experts' here so I challenge them to find this mysterious 'bug'. This 'bug' will crash the MPC and you will have to reboot the 2500 in order to continue using it

for as I experienced there are two bugs:

1: if you automatically slice a sample and then make a program of them, then one or the other is chopped off if you play them at exactly the same time. I think this is because the mpc get the sound out of the old sample (I guess it isn't really chopped, it just puts locaters in the sample) and obviously it isn't able to play two locations in the sample at the same time.

2: of you are in track mute and you want to go to 16 levels, the mpc freezes (but remains playing your sequence)
to get out of this trap: press 'next sequence' then you can stop and every thing is normal again.

the slider works fine! I had that bug because live I trigger my mpc via midi with an alesis d4, and then it doesn't work (funny though because that did work with my mpc1000)

Yesterday I checked how much the cd player costs here in europe....
****** 290,-euro's
thats sick ! did anybody find a cheaper one that works allready?
and is it true that in the future You will be able to burn a song (the audio track!) with that cd-writer?
cause that would really be handy an maybe worth the ridiculus price.

little detail: I have one of the ten first mpc2500's of europe hehe!
