Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Okay, i tried to search for this, but didn't quite find anything useful, so if someone knows if this has been answered already, please point me to it.

What baffles me at the moment, trying out my new 2500 is the following:
I loaded one of the factory samples onto my PC, namely the l-kick.wav from the internal memory set. I noticed it sounded VERY different from what came out of the 2500, but i expected that, knowing that kinda sound from the 2000XL already.

What irritates me is, when i load that sample on the MPC, and audition it in the load screen, it sounds similar to the sound out of my PC. Not exactly, but almost. AS SOON as i assign it to a pad, and hit it, it sounds completely different, most of you would say "fatter" The sound in the load page stays the same though. No effects, no master compressor, and an empty memory except that one sample.

Is this intended? If the MPC compresses that heavily, why not do it on the load page already as well? Why offer an auditioning of the sample, if the box does some magic of its own afterwards, making it sound completely different?

The sounds that you auditon from the load screen should sound exactly the same when you assign them to a program when the Full Level Key is turned on. If it doesn't sound the same, you have an effect or filter turned on somewhere. I have not experienced the problem you are having.

i also have NOT experienced what you were talking about

I guess you guys did not explicitly try it with the same sample i mentioned? Cause i think when you take a sampled sound from vinyl for example, you wouldn't notice the difference as clearly as these usually are compressed already...

I can't duplicate the same test since deleting the crappy factory samples was the first thing I did with the 2500.

I spent a good bit last night transferring my Battery1/2 drum samples over to the 2500s hard drive. These drum samples sound the same whether I am auditioning them or loading them up and placing them in a sequence.

Maybe your problem lies with the sample you are using....I can't call it. But if I notice anything from my continued use of this MPC, I will post my findings.

Ok, i finally figured this out as well... quite by chance, however.

The sample i was talking about was pitched down by 12 semitones, which only takes effect when you assign it to the pad, not in the auditioning. I noticed that when I hit the window button on the sample in the trim screen, where it was tuned down by 12 semitones (NOT in the program).

I reproduced it with another sample i took off a record, same behaviour.

I never realized it was possible to save such settings with a WAV file, which it is.
