With the 2500, you can layer up to 4 samples on one pad. Its not the same as the XL but I like it much better. In fact, I never use that function on the XL.

Yes they will share the same filters when you layer them in the 2500 (as discussed in a recent thread :D ). However, when you are talking about filters in an MPC 2000XL, they are far from remarkable. Evem in the 2500, that are just ok.

What I like to to is get my drums/samples sounding right before I sample them with an MPC. I use external EQ and filters, analog compression, etc on my drums and then sample them into the MPC. I get much better results than soley using the filters in an MPC.

when doing my thing live I have to first resample all of my filtered drums and layer them ....with the xl and just the regular 2000 u could trigger up to 3 pads and use diffrent filters ................shit was awsome ...but some dumb **** at akai took it away because someone was smoking CRACK!

Probably because more people use the MPCs at home/studio than they do live....but I am just speculating.

Honestly, I don't think listeners during a live performance will notice/care to much whether you filtered one or several drum samples :D

For the price, I think, it should do this and more. The Machinedrum easily does this for $600 less. And it doesn't even sample.

C'mon Akai, get yer sh@t together. The 2500 should really do alot more soon than now.

Im an engineer first and foremost above a producer, its where I earn most of my bread, so i do multing (as opposed to multi layering talked about here) as well as layering out through the console and outboard.
Ive used EMUs for years now, so I appreciate that the 2500 filters are kinda weak in comparison to the Z-Planes, but filters per layer is still a useful feature.

The way you work Im sure is fine for yourself, but as an engineer, when working with other peoples material, in most cases the producer is NOT an engineer, and I dont want them to be so prescriptive (and destructive) with the sound before it gets to me. Especially when they are likely making beats in rooms that arent acoustically sound.
If I can get everything to tape flat and unprocessed I have far greater possibilities for realizing the vision of the artist or producer..

C'mon Akai is right! But for different reasons....

So, if that function is important to you.....a Machine Drum (I guess) will be right up your alley. For myself, I would prefer that they fix the promosied features first..and then start adding things. But there are plenty of suggested features that I would want before wanting the MPC to trigger sounds assigned to two additional pads from one pad. Just hit three pads at the same time  Then you will have up to 12 sounds triggering in groups of 4 :D

I think jahrome won't really get your point anymore, savillion

But concerning the bugs and features discussion, look at it from a slightly other perspective for a second:

What if a device such as an MPC (or similar...) would come out with a flawless, bugfree and rock stable OS in the first place? Ok, the customers would be happy, the manufacturer would be happy, but he would have next to no intent of adding anymore features over time, the customer has what he paid for after all, no? At least not as much as when the customers are pissed already at having to beta test an unfinished product.

When I look at the new features in the 1000's new OS, that almost looks to me like a late compensation for all the bugs and weaknesses it had and still has.

Just my thoughts...

So..if you hit 3 pads at once..it wouldn't compensate for the simult function??
User avatar

By savilion Sun Feb 19, 2006 6:59 pm
No because your not hitting all three pads at the same velocity......... Trust me man if you had used an xl or regular 2000 u know what I m talking about and u miss that shit like no tommorow

The timing of the 1k and 2.5k is not perfect, so the samples which are supposed to be stacked will end up being aligned slightly differently each time. leading to inconsistent sound due to phasing.

Also the velocity thing.
