the white ide connector

yo guys, i just installed the ram expansion in my 2500, and i noticed a white IDE connector just below the SO-ram expansion. i was wondering: What's it for? the cdrom? or could you add a normal IDE harddrive to this connector?

I wondered too already. If you look close, it's not like a usual IDE connector on a PC board. And the CD-ROM is installed just like the harddrive by just pushing it to a connector at the back of the slot.

My guess is a diagnostics interface for service technicians.

Diagnostics.. that's indeed a good one, cause the tech ppl of akai won't have to screw the whole thing open for service.. and it's a male cable, so for a HD you would need a different cable to connect..

my guess is it's a diagnostics/remote OS location port for the programmers, that way the can have the mpc connected to their programming computer, and the os files are all on that. that way it'd save them having to put the os on the cf card each time they iron out a bug.

just a theory.
