In the manual it says that this feature records what you can hear from the stereo outs.

So i've got a song laid down and went to record it but it hasn't recorded the midi notes from Reason. Everything else is in there though.

Is it supposed to do this? The manual mentions nothing about not recording the midi notes as far as i can see.

you cant hear midi events, can you?

or do you mean the actual triggered audio from reason?

Yeah it's the triggered audio from reason that i cant hear. Plays fine in normal playback but not after i've recorded the main outs

You answered your question yourself already I think.

In the manual it says that this feature records what you can hear from the stereo outs.

And I guess the output from Reason is from your soundcard, not your MPC? So how can it record it then?

If I understand it correctly, it just re-routes the samplers output directly to memory. Just like a Resampling function.

you have to reroute the audio out of reason to the mpc in, enable input through and then record your main outs. this way the audio from reason is actualy going through the mpc.
if the audio from input through is not recorded, even if you can hear it through the mpc outs, then akai must fix it in an os update or change the manual accordingly.

yanno....this goes hand and hand with this topic.....so here it goes. When i record with from my main out, its sounds a little different than from when it plays back live(like in a 4 bar loop). Almost as though the master effects arnt being recorded... does anyone else have this problem??

Just tried to reproduce, but it records the main effects alright with me. Of course if you leave the main FX on, it will add these to your recorded sample once again, so that might be the cause. Try turning your effects off after recording, and compare the sample then!

hey thats right...let me try that....

Yanno what, I have tried that, still doesnt sound the same. When i use the Record feature and set the input as Main out, i can record the track fine. But when i replay the newly made wav file, it doesnt sound the same as when i was recording. Am I missing something here?..

you must have super ears cause there is a slight quality reduction when you sample, period. but its usaully not to detectable. well try these things. normalize (with and without) see which one sounds better, if your using a mixer to tune your outs keep them on flat.( so u can hear the true output) with out any added effects, eqs)

honestly, i dont think its the super ears......its a pretty significant change.....I know that its not the effect over lapping... After recording the main out, it saves it as a WAV file. I tranfered that over to my comp and tried playing it off thier. Stilll.....no luck....so i think its something when intially recordind.....I have tried the normalize option, and nothing...
What i have just done....was plugged my main out straight into the mic jack of my computer, and recorded that way...and it sounds better....just crappy quality.....im pretty convinced its something when selecting the main outs option....I reallyy hope one of you guys can help me out with this problem...

have you tried messing with the master volume setting

either that or the 'resampling is analog' theory has more evidence in its favor :)

By UndsOverd Talent Mon Apr 10, 2006 4:20 am
yeh, ive physically tied the main out to the analog input......i have almost the same result as the main out recording option.....what the hell could it be??

Not that I have a clue what is the problem, but you should better use the Line In jack on your soundcard when recording from your MPC....basically, when recording from anything that's not a mic.

Maybe you should check again that you have the "Monitor" option off, and nothing connected to your Record In on the MPC when recording the main outs, to prevent any possible feedback...
