TimeStretch(detect Tempo)....OS 1.10

Is it me or is it still not getting to the correct tempo?????

When trying to timestretch a sample(with unknown BPM) to fit a certain tempo...i have problems
When i hit detect tempo.......it always seem to fast.

I did search.........didnt see any current posts.


Tell me I'm not crazy........or doing something wrong.

did u make sure the sample loops properly first?

yes sir. If the original is like about 80bpm....and i try to find the exact tempo by using Detect Tempo.....it would come back with something like 175bmp...


I first thought that it might be doubling the bpm

it dosent work! on the 1000 its the same thing. the manule say not to rely on it, cause it sometime is wrong!

What are you trying to achieve? As I think the Chop Shop maybe what you're after.

I havent had that issue when I've used it,

make sure your setting the correct number of "bars" also

I find the tempo myself with the metronome and then work from there. The detect tempo do work but I think you have to have the time signatures set correctly in order for it to be more accurate. I just find the tempo by playing the loop and adjusting the metronome to the loop then stretch it using the original tempo I found thus setting the new tempo. This works perfectly for me.

I wrote something about this in another thread some time ago...can't find it though at the moment.


The MPC always assumes that your sample is 1 bar long. That means, if it actually runs over 2 bars, you will have to divide the detected tempo by 2 to get it right. As most phrase samples are more then one bar long, it appears to you as if it is detected as too fast. The 175 BPM you mentioned is probably more like 87 BPM actually.

Still, it won't be completely accurate, but usually very close.

This is my first MPC.....as i dont sample. I just love the drum groove of them. I'm really used to keyboards....Motif, Fantom, ASR-10, etc.

what i'm doing:

load a loop>play it back til i find the tempo with metro. or tap tem.
add some drum hits> kick, SN, hats, etc
add another loop.
and try to use Detect Tem. to get that sample stretched right....no go man.
The only way I can get it to work is using the Tap or click. Then manually entering the original tempo before stretching. It easy to do the with the first sample because no other loops are loaded.


I hope they fix it.

If I don't get good results with the DETECT TEMPO feature, I'll try to find the original tempo using a calculator.

bpm something something where you can tap the space bar and it gives you the bpm little program junk I forgot the name of it.
