question on sound

just completed my first full track on the mpc last night, was working on it with the headphones cos it was late as.
got it sounding proper banging, i was well happy with it.
got up this morning powered the beast up and started to play the tune.
the sound was not anywhere near as good as it sounded through the cans.
can anyone tell me whats the best sort of gear to be running the mpc through to get a true sort f sound.
im really an amatuer when it comes to studio stuff, and aint been doin it for long, more dj orientated.
right now my mpc is going into my vestax mixer, which is connected to the p.c which then runs through my stereo.
i take it this way of setting it up is bad

The reason it doesn't sound the same is because your headphones (and prob your Vestax - PCV yes?) are made to slightly alter the raw sound and make it more pleasing to the ear.

What you need is monitor speakers. These things try to be as 'flat' as possible (debate-able).

I'm sorry but I can't be bothered to explain it in full detail, plus I'd prob get most of it wrong, so I'm going to post a link.

also, its all part of the game; the ultimate goal is to get a track that will sound good on anything from club speakers to a car stereo, so i think most people who mix go back and forth between at least a couple different speaker systems just to check out how it will sound

personally it works for me to get it mixed well on speakers then check it thru headphones and vice versa.. if it sounds decent on both then ur getting somewhere

i think of it as different stages of cleaning things up... like if you think you got your room clean but then you turn on a different lamp and u see some dust over in the corner. i have learned to appreciate that moment of hearing something else 'wrong' with the track, cause once you fix it it will sound better overall

If you want to beef up the sound, try the 2500's master effects. Try adding, then editing, EQ and compression-for more bottom and detail.

press mode. next pad 12 (Effect) and then F4 (Master)
You'll see EQ: Off (Switch on)
Compressor: Off (Switch on)

Then adjust the master effects to your liking.

This won't give you a natural sound, but it will beef up the 2500's sound.
You can also add a BBE sonic maximizer or a D/I box and a mic pre. Although, that can get expensive.
