100 MEG per second transfer rate??

On the Toshiba MK4026GAX hard drive I see it has a transfer rate of 100 megs per second and the MPC has 128 megs....SO it would be loaded in 1.28 seconds?? This can't be true...

He's not confusing Bits and Bytes.

Theoretical maximum data transfer rate is 100 MB/sec (UDMA100). But hard drives usually reach an actual transfer rate of only 20-30 MB/sec. Don't know about the Toshiba drive, but it will be somewhere around that, especially when you have to load several small files.

yes that's the sustained maximum transfer rate of the data bus, not a real life value. given that the hard drive has to find each file before transferring it, you won't get near that, even stilo's suggestion is a little optimistic. the only way you'd gt close to the 100MB/s rate would be with a solid state drive.

so roughly 128 megs of samples loading into the MPC from the hard drive...how long would I have to wait????

j/k mate, seriously, it's not that much of an issue, and unless you're a looper, then you ain't gonna be loading up 128MB of samples everytime!
