Ok i've tried everything...

I just can't get my motif 6 to work properly with the MPC 2500. It plays the sounds fine....when i hit record and i play a few chords, it plays it back to me. But then when i switch the voice up on the Motif, my *recorded* track changes to that new voice. Basically i can't play a string section, then a bass, then a brass, etc.....

I dont understand how it can change itself once its already been recorded . I'm stressed out, i've read the manual and i can't find anything about this....

anyone with any advice?! it'd be greatly appreciated at this point!

sounds like your recording just the midi notes not the actual sound.

Connecting a Keyboard to the MPC:

Keyboard Settings:
MIDI OUT to MPC MIDI IN
Local Control OFF
Make sure its in Multi-Mode
Route Audio Outs(headphone out if stereo out isnt available) to your Mixer

MPC Settings:
MIDI OUT to Keyboard MIDI IN
Turn DRUM to MIDI 1A or 1B(most likely 1A)
Route Audio OUTS(stereo outs or headphone out) to your mixer

Cables Required:MIDI(2) and Audio Cables(depends on how many outs the gear has)

Example:
Say you have a bass on the keyboard and it is on Channel 2(track 2 for some keyboards with onboard sequencers)

Then the MPC should be set to MIDI:2A

So basically whatever the sound in the keyboard is the number should be the same on the MPC.

Channel 1 or Track 1=MIDI 1A
Channel 2 or Track 2=MIDI 2A

ect....

ea it sounds like you are not recording the program change message.
try hitting record and then dialing in or typing in the specific patch on yer motif to record that program change info.

hey guys, i'm sorry if i seem like an idiot but i'm really kind of new to midi....Anyone with a motif know what steps i should take to correct the problem of only recording the midi notes?

Even reading the manual is like reading another language, because they assume that the user is an experienced engineer or something, lol. I got this keyboard a little while ago off of a friend that was selling it for a lot cheaper than stores were, so i jumped at the opportunity.

Anyways i'm going to fiddle with it and see if i can figure it out, but if anyone knows the actual steps that would be cool!

midi is just the information of notes/keys beeing pressed and released.
if you record a midi sequenz on your mpc and play it back, you
can change the sound of it by stepping through the presets of
your motif.so this melody is played by a "bass" or a "trumpet" or a "piano"
and so on.
the motif shoukld have two different modes(dont own a motif myself).
its the normal mode and the multimode.
in normal mode it can only play one kind of sound in a time.
means if you record two tracks they have the same sound. you cant record
a bass sound and overdub another sound like piano.
therefore you got to use the multimode.
in multimode 16 midichannels refer to 16 different sounds.
so put motif in multimode and select bass sound for midichannel 1.
then record it by using the MIDI:A1 on mpc.
change to an new track and select MIDI:A2.
now you can select another sound on motif channel2 and record it.
you should now have 2 different sounds beeing played.

another possibility is to record your bass track to audio(DAW synced to mpc, or direct recording to mpc), then mute the midibasstrack and
change sound on motif and create new track on mpc to get some other instruments recorded (one after the other). this should work in "normal mode" .
you will have to record your midistuff to audio anyway if you want to mixdown your track to burn it on a cd.

Glad I could help. If I could get my hands on a Motif I could make a guide for that keyboard on connecting it directly to the MPC.(exact connections needed)

Ima try to get some tutorials out soon so bare with me.

Has the Motif got an upgradeable OS? Are you on the latest?


Should be straight forward recording the MIDI events. Have you tried Tweaks Home Studio Guide from google?

How about the fact that the MPC2500 can't record a full keyboard range - are you using the middle of keyboard....?
