HD question

The AKAIPRO website lists the HITACHI 80GB HD as "tested and approved", however I read in one of the 2500 threads (can't remember which one I read them all) that someone asked about a 100GB HD for their mpc2500 ..so.. since there is not a 100GB HD listed as "tested and approved" on the AKAIPRO website, is it true that I can install an HD beyond 80GB into my mpc2500 with no problems? If so, whats the highest I can go? and what company is safe to use without damaging my mpc?

I'm asking because it turned out that AKAI tech suport said that I can only use their EXM128 or esle it won't work at all, yet everybody in the 1000 threads are using 256 to obtain a full 128, but can't go to 512 to obtain 256. So I'm guessing this might be the case with the optional HD as well (and that I can use something just fine that AKAI's tech support would deny). Please enlighten me, I need as much HD space as possible.

If you read through the hard drive thread in the 1000 forums i'm sure people have used 100gb drives. I've got a feeling one person may also have used a seagate 120gb.

Sparq definitely has a 100gb drive, think it's a Toshiba.

The MPC can only use 128mb RAM max though. I guess that's a constraint on the main CPU or something. As you probably know seeing as you've read the thread, the 1000 and 2500 will only read the outer two chips on the RAM card, hence the need for 256mb to gain the full 128mb of sample memory.

The official Akai RAM only has the two outer chips on it.

And they were probably lying to you because their RAM is so expensive compared to 3rd party ram and does the same job.

But if you're gonna spend all that money on the MPC, what's a little extra to keep it official.

it is true that the 1k and the 2.5k can use a 100gb hard drive. and yes spirez, i do have the toshiba mk1032 hard drive (100gb). and spirez, i'm not sure about a 120gb. i havent tested that one. if someone is using it, then cool, but i don't know for a fact.

I have a Seagate 100GB in my MPC2500. I'm pretty sure you can use a larger hard drive with no problems. IMHO, 100GB is more than enough.

ive got the official 80gig tosh and the official mem because if you send it away to be fixed at akai center they can (prob wont), but they can, turn around and say they dont want to support it with that hardware config.
worst comes to worst you take it out and send it off...
