Seagate ST1 Drive 5GB CF Card HD

Hi guys,

I have been testing the MPC2500 with the Seagate ST1 Drive 5GB CF Card HD for a couple weeks now on os 1.1 to 1.21.

It works very well

for 100$CAD you get a very portable 5gb harddrive for your MPC

Just thought I would let people know since the manual says nothing about it, and says it's 2gig max (notice I have not filled up the card yet, but the MPC reports 5gb of total storage).

2 gig max is fat16 limit.

How did you format your drive?

Good to know. But over here they are more like 250 CAD...so no point in choosing that over a 4GB CF card, which has no moving parts.

Would like to know how you formatted it as well. Although the MPC can also format up to 80GB harddrives at least, which must be FAT32, so I doubt that FAT16 is the limitation. I would even bet that a 4 GB CF card works just as well...

@lampdog: how do you know that the mpc uses fat16 ? and why is is then able to format harddrives with 80 or 100 gb ?

to the best of my knowledge, 2g is FAT16's file size limit...

I formatted the drive with the MPC's utility tab thing

Windows reports the drive is using the FAT32 filesystem...

I think Lampdog was just guessing. 2GB is actually the FAT16 size limit. But that does not necessarily need to be the reason why Akai states 2GB as the limit...which it obviously isn't anyway
