I was over at a friends studio today listening to some seq's on his mpc 2k and the thing definitely seemed a bit tighter/crisper synced up to his protools and in general. Was it just a bad ear I had today for that or is that somthing others are experiencing with there 2500's. I notice it on mine ever so slightly but its annoyin as a ****

any insight would be great

Honestly, I haven't had a problem and everything I lay down seems to be right on spot.............but I have only had my 2500 for about 2 weeks.I have seen that posted in these forums before though.

So it has been brought up as an issue? thats chill atleast because I was begining to think im the only one. Maybe a bug from within the software. Hopefully this shit gets sorted out. Until then a used 2kxl might be needed since Im most definitely not parting ways with the 2500, the machine is too much of a beast.

Maybe he's doing something different than you are. Other different gear, settings, effects, d/a, soundcard, 2500 OS.

Can't really judge like that unless you are running EVERYTHING the same.
If that's the case then it might be your MPC, have you tried hooking up HIS MPC to your studio and see what happens when you load your songs?

I am not sure if it was brought up as it being a bug or not. If you get the time do a search on the matter and that will give you a little more insight on the matter. Try the search"tempo and issuses" or " t.c." and see what you come up with.

I hope this helps you out. 8) ..... 8) ..... 8) .....

I don't have any issues with timing as far as creating music..whether I use internal samples or MIDI. There does seem to be a slight issue with getting the MPC to sync to a software sequencer.

my mpc 2500 is running great :D Ive had the 2000xl before and I must admit it did seem a little bit tighter. Maybe the 2500 will breed a new type of beat

whats interesting for me is: if someone have both 2000 and 2500.

make a simple beat in the 2000 and transfer the whole beat with, seq. prgm etc to the 2500 to compare them.

so, if someone want to do this, i´m very proud of him :D

Call me crazy, but i have found that almost all the mpcs that i have used / owned, they all have subtle differences in feel / sound. Before anybody says this is 'BS', i highly recommend them to try out as many mpcs from 1k to 4k (more than 1 of each), then comment.

You are not crazy. They all feel different. They sound different as well. But no debate from me which is superior because everybody has their personal preferences..which is obvious in most cases.

Call me crazy with this one..but...when I used an MPC 2000 to program drums..even when I made a mistake with my timing, it seemed to spit out some hot shit when the quantize was turned on with swing applied.

Yeah i know what you mean. It does freak me out sometimes. I suppose you can look at an mpc as an instrument (like a flute or a guitar), they all have unique sweet spots...you just have to find them.

The thing with all this tightness talk with mpcs, it never ends. I have been through it, pulling my hair out for a few years now, finding an mpc that has my preference of timing.

I have found that studio monitors also play a huge part to perception of timing. For example, IMO many 8 inch monitors (or monitors with slow attack) just dont cut it for me for when im mixing drums from mpcs. Small speakers with tight bass response is much better, and often reveals timing issues (if any at all). Even room problems with bass boominess often creates poor judgement of timing.

it just goes on.

Yeah..I am about to start a fight with this one......

Between the MPC 2000, 2000XL, 2500, 3000, 3000LE, and the 4000.....the 4000 had the worst timing from my experience. I did use on of the earlier OS though..but I really wasn't feeling it as much as the other MPCs I used, which is the reason why I took a 'step backwards' and kept using the 3000LE and 2KXL.

Really...

I found the complete opposite. I feel the 4000 to be the tightest in timing out of all mpcs ever made. I have had many professionals judge on this besides my own golden ears  It just shows how subjective this all is though.

FWIW i know some Drum & Bass producers (of which one of them has had a huge sucess worldwide, though i cannot mention his name), who swears by the 4000 for its timing, and cannot live with out it now. He also uses a 3000le for live. Afterall, Drum and Bass producers are very anal about timing.

Yes, it is all subjective. Even the term 'tight' can be subjective and have several meaings.

If tight means that it plays back exactly what you punch in with the pads..then the 4000 can be considered very tight. When my timing was off, the 4000 spit out exactly what I put into it. Doing the same thing with older MPCs, I usually got some interesting results, that turned out even better than what I imagined. My mistakes turned out to be my 'master pieces'.

I've been wondering almost the same thing, almost, about timing and sync stability. It must be a "touchy" or "inconsistant" thing though. I've yet to get any answer, except from a salesman.....and I don't believe anything he said ("The 4000 has the best timing, due to the improved design and OS".... "the 2500 is right behind it though...."......sounds like a sales pitch, since users haven't commented on it much...plus you all are saying differently. )
