I'm trying to make my beats more complex by adding more samples to the sequence, but I'm having trouble with layering one sample from one record and another from another record. Is it all in the tempo? Can somebody help me? It just sounds jumbled and unatural sometimes.

Man, that's a vague question.

It's probably much more than tempo. You have tuning, which is adjusted to taste. You don't really need the ABC scale but there should be some relationship. You also have dynamics, loop length, eqing. There is much more than just tempo. Tempo is for DJs...jk

I agree. More than likely your problem is that the key signatures are not matching up..........try adjusting the tune of each sample as you lay it down listen for a sweet spot if you don't hear one chances are these samples will not work well with each other.........and that my two cents!!1 :D
